This book was incredibly well researched. Brought historical characters to life.
Revisado: 05-13-24
Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The one huge negative was in the performance where the word Ireland was constantly pronounced island, so annoying! IRE LAND.
There were other mispronounciations in place names and some of the Irish/Gaelic terms and names off but these were forgivable as the narrator was not Irish.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old Samuel Sooleyman comes from a village in South Sudan, a war-torn country where one third of the population is a refugee. His great love is basketball: his prodigious leap and lightning speed make him an exceptional player. And it may also bring him his big chance: he has been noticed by a coach taking a youth team to the United States. If he gets through the tournament, Samuel's life will change beyond recognition. But it's the longest of long shots.

For basketball fans
Revisado: 06-14-21
whilst I enjoyed this book I found the games commentary tedious as someone who is not a basketball fan and who doesn't understand the terminology, it was not that as easy to keep up with.
As usual the characters well well developed by the author who is one of my all time favourites, I should have chosen a book with a different subject/storyline.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

I found this book dated. I know it was written and set in the 70s but many other books stand the test of time better.

good story

The storyline was good and kept my attention. I found the nation annoying particularly when reading the childrens voices which were silly. This almost put me off continuing to listen which was big negative for me.

When two Union soldiers stumble onto a plantation in northern Georgia on a warm May day in 1864, the last thing they expect is to see the Union flag flying high - or to be greeted by a group of freed slaves and their Jewish mistress. Little do they know that this place has an unusual history. Twelve years prior, Adelaide Mannheim - daughter of Mordecai, the only Jewish planter in the county - was given her own maid, a young slave named Rachel.
