I purchased this audio book hoping to learn techniques on how I, as a faithful lay Christian, could counter atheist and anti-Christian arguments I might encounter.
This book, in my opinion, gets too deep in the weeds regarding definitions of various types of apologetic philosophies and felt more like a book written for academics rather than the average person.
I gave up on this book after hoping the technical definitions would eventually end and the author would finally get to helping the listener handle in plain English challenges they can expect to hear from skeptics.
So, I went back to my Audible library and listened once again to Greg Koukl's Street Smarts. That's the book I was hoping Expository Apologetics was going to be. Koukl's books are terrific.

i purchased this audio book to listen to in the car. I thought this book was going to take the words of Christ in the Bible and interpret them and help put them in context for the reader (listener).
Instead, the writer constantly instructs the reader/listener to look up passages on their own and make their own interpretations.
This book does not translate well into an audio book at all, and it did not provide the insights I was hoping for.

Mr. Forbes gives a great overview of the topic of inflation. In particular, he teaches the reader that inflation is not "higher prices ". Instead, he makes us appreciate that higher prices are a symptom of what inflation is at its core--the devaluation of our currency.
As Americans, we feel a false sense of security and immunity to reckless fiscal policies because the dollar is the world's reserve currency and because we like to believe America is undefeatable. But Mr. Forbes's many historical examples of failed societies due to devaluation of currency should give us pause. If Rome could fall, so can the USA.
The author maintains that the only sensible and responsible path is to revert back to the gold standard for the dollar. My only criticism of the book is that the author didn't spell out exactly how reverting to the gold standard would affect (in both the short and long run) various aspects of our financial life. Specifically, what would happen to food and commodity prices, the stock market, the price of housing, etc. He tells us again and again that the gold standard is the way to go, but I would have liked to hear what the day to day consequences (both good and bad) would be.
Forbes should be a cabinet member.

The American Dream lives

Revisado: 04-10-24

This was a great "American Dream" story. Dr. Hill arrived in America with nothing but determination and plan and achieved success in America.

My only criticisms of the book are his sometimes wordy and dense description of the American spirit and American personality. His sentences are long and contain sophisticated vocabulary at times and his perceptions of "Americanism" are pretty complex and deep. This is a reflection of Dr. Hill's intellect and my cave manishness, but it still made parts of the book a labor to listen to.

That said, the book shows that, contrary to the popular narrative, talent and hard work are all that is necessary to succeed in America. Race is largely irrelevant.

The most telling and enjoyable portions of the book were when he described his experiences and those of his fellow immigrants as they grew to thrive in the USA.

Equally telling were his experiences as a "conservative" in the far-left world of academia. They didn't know how to handle a successful gay and black man who didn't follow the leftist party line.

Good stuff. A story that deserves to be told.

These brief essays are from Dr. Sowell's syndicated newspaper commentaries. As such, each one is brief and succinct, making them easy to listen to. And though some of the essays are more than twenty years old, the listener is reminded of two facts:
1) The struggles between leftists and conservatives has been going on for a long time.
2) Thomas Sowell is a world treasure. What a remarkable man.

Few people put their faith to the intellectual test the way Nabeel Qureshi did, I doubt few people, myself included, have the intellectual capacity to do so as rigorously as he did. Most of us worship out of habit and tradition passed down by our parents. This guy really thought things out.
At great personal risk (of losing his family and support from his old religious community), Nabeel set out on a many-year journey to scrutinize his religious beliefs and turned to Christ at the end.
I first saw him on YouTube and listed to this book after seeing his entertaining, respectful, and inspiring videos.
What a tragedy that he passed (to Heaven, I'm confident) so early. We needed him here.

This book explains how Post Modernism, a concept once relegated to college campuses in the 1960's, has now metastasized to popular culture, business, and mainstream politics. This brand of thinking purposely throws out logic, evidence, and classical liberal concepts of fairness and universal human rights.

The authors do a great job breaking down how the various "___-studies" of current academic disciplines sprouted from the original premises of Post Modernism. That said, this stuff is still conceptually dense and at times makes my head hurt listening to it. But I've listened to this book twice because the stakes are so high.

It wouldn't be so scary if this stuff was still discussed only in college faculty lounges. But this illogical, intolerant and il-liberal line of thinking is everywhere. Read this book and be better prepared to counter with classical liberal arguments on how we continue to make the world better for everyone.

David Mamet is a rare bird: a member of the creative/entertainment industry who espouses conservative virtues and calls out the Left for its hypocrisy and absurdity. Similar to my all-time favorite conservative, Thomas Sowell, Mamet started out as a leftist.
This audio book was interesting, consisting of dozens of brief chapters of musings/commentaries by Mamet about numerous topics.
Mamet is clearly brilliant, and perhaps that is the main criticism I have for the book. His sentences are long and dense, and sometimes went over my head. That's more a reflection of my shortcomings rather than his, but it has never been a problem for me when listening to Sowell. Dr. Sowell is equally brilliant but has a more succinct style that I prefer, especially for books that I consume while driving.
Overall, a thought provoking and entertaining book.

Thomas Sowell is a master at pointing out the misuse of statistics and faulty reasoning that perpetuate the "truths" foisted upon us by politicians, activists, and the media.
