Historia
Secretly treasured memories of her eccentric grandmother’s Tuscan house are very special for Carrie Stowe; for not only do they recall the happy childhood summers before the Great War, they are her only escape from the suffocating routine of her life with Arthur, her repressive husband. Incest and intimate partner violence
Revisado: 03-28-25
The story begins slowly. It is predictable from early in the story. It is not worth the time to listen. The story lacks depth. The female protagonist is depicted as weak and naive. The setting was extremely appealing, however, the story is disappointing. There is a reason the description is brief. Telling more about the story would reveal the entire plot.

Started to listen multiple times, but cannot get past the narrator's voice.
Revisado: 12-05-23
An uninteresting story with a nit-great narrator. There is nothing to pull the listener's attention in the beginning and after chapter 3, I find myself bored and ready to skip to the end.

Not worth the purchase
Revisado: 11-03-23
I attempt to listen to this book and each time, I am unable to get past the middle of chapter 2. The narrator's voice is grating and the story feels a bit bland and predictable. There is a potential for a light-hearted story but I can't get past this narrator.

Narrator sounds as if she is yelling
Revisado: 04-04-22
The narrator is terrible. I usually like Jenny Hale, but I cannot get past the narrator. She sounds whiny with no true inflection. I am in the middle of chapter 1 and cannot tolerate the narrator any further. I will be returning this book.

Perfect for easing back to life after vacation
Revisado: 04-04-22
The narrator balanced the accents well without sounding forced. The story was easy to follow despite moving between different characters' points of view. It had enough detail to keep me coming back without the feeling that it needed to end already. It was enjoyable. It was the light ebook I wanted at the end of my first week after vacation. Nothing profound, but a nice escape.

Predictable Escape
Revisado: 03-14-22
I was predicting the outcome before part 2 began. The narrator was horrible. Her accents were unintelligible. I read the other reviews and thought that it was worth a try anyway. I was wrong. The story lacked depth, which made the entire time listening feel like a waste of time.

High expectations, but did not deliver
Revisado: 10-12-21
I was disappointed when A Gentleman in Moscow ended. I expected a similar experience with this book. Unfortunately, this book did not deliver. I forced mys lf to listen through the first 3 chapters, but it was SO dull. I had high hopes given some of the story developing, but I could not force myself any longer. I even tried jumping ahead a few chapters to see if something grabbed my attention and caused me to want to go back and read to find the missing pieces. This also did not happen. I felt as though I missed nothing in the middle. There are tooany good books for me to sit through this.

Surprisingly delightful
Revisado: 10-16-19
I was drawn to the book because of the narrator and the fact that it included a plot with Jane Austen. I was delighted to discover the storey was well written and enjoyable. There was not a time in the story that I wished it would end. It flowed well with enough detail to keep the story interesting and somewhat plausible. I was sad when I arrived at the end.
The narrator's voice is one that I love. I discovered her through The War That Saved My Life and really enjoy her narration. Her narration for this book did not disappoint.

Historia
It's tough when your gifts and passions are stuck in holding patterns of insecurity, shame, and comparison. But the truth is, every experience of your life has prepared you to live out your God-given purpose in this exact moment. The world is hurting and our lives are waiting, we don't have time stay stuck--we've got to make a move. You Are the Girl for the Job is not an empty catchphrase. It's the straight-up truth God has proclaimed over your life from the beginning. It's not a statement about your capacity, but rather about His.

Souch potential, but sadly missed the mark
Revisado: 10-05-19
I was underwhelmed. I wanted it to have more. I wanted to love it. For me, it would best be described as meh.
Her narration included varying tone and intensity consistent with an author's unique view of the text. I really enjoy when an author narrates their own book. Not this time. Unfortunately, she appeared to be whining more than I find appealing.
I found myself letting it play while I walked to other rooms and out of ear shot because I did not feel it was worth listening. There were small nuggets of goodness, but they were few and soarse. I came to a point where I felt content was included for the page count more than the quality.
I was hopeful, but disappointed. just because a person has a blog and creates a platform for themselves does not mean they are a gifted writer. The shoes on the cover are the best part of the book for me.

Not a light read
Revisado: 03-08-19
I was interested in the story during the beginning chapters. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the entire book. There are portions where the graphic details were too much for my oreference. I regret this purchase.
The narrator is gifted in transitioning from an American accent to French and then to Scottish. She may be the reason I continued to the end.
I do. it recommend this book if you don't:t enjoy graphic descriptions of violence.
