Historia
It is near the end of the 21st century. Persistent war, overpopulation, and climate change have caused poverty and natural disasters like mankind has never known. When a signal offering assistance reaches Earth from an alien entity calling itself the Foundry, humanity plans a mission to the stars for first contact. In the midst of this, Milo Hughes is just another five-year-old boy who wishes nothing more than to doodle with crayons and dig in the dirt, while his parents secretly plot to join the mission—whether they were invited or not.

An amazing story! definitely worth a listen
Revisado: 09-29-23
the story is very well written and thought out. For me, it feels like the author might be writing under a different name and is actually a veteran author, the writing is THAT good! The main character is very well written, to the point where you will go through a phase of liking the main character, then close to hating him, and then back to liking, and then loving the main character. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. only thing I wasn't fond of was the exploration of God in the book. It just felt a bit odd, though in consideration to how book one ends it makes some kind of sense and would in fact need to be touched on

Historia
In a harsh world where survivors live off the scraps of the fallen civilization, Yun-mi had worked her ass off for two years, honing her scavenger skills. She is on the cusp of fulfilling her dreams of becoming the finest Rat the City has seen. Yun-mi's plans crumble when her mentor is murdered, and she is about to be sold to slavers. In the no-holds-barred game, she's got only one rule: not to give up, and woe to those facing a cornered Rat. Navigating alone between major powers, arrogant clans, and fake friends, she may lack knowledge and finesse, but has determination to spare.

An interesting book worth a listen
Revisado: 09-05-23
TLDR: Story is good. has inconsistencies but worth giving it a go.
Full review:
the story is interesting and keeps you listening. I will say though that I found it odd that Five Points has such an aversion to technology yet they have guns and clocks, and also would be in a sense illiterate considering their tendency to curse and burn books. Basically an entire civilization that is illiterate. it makes me wonder how their government keeps things straight financially and keeping track of their history as well. I found it difficult to determine how far in the future this book takes place. it's setup in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario after some sort of deviating event occurred, and sometimes it sounds like it might be 50 years in the future, while at other times it feels like it must be a few hundred years in the future. I say this because glass windows are mentioned as being present in the city on occasion, which wouldn't be a thing in the distant future, while other times it sounds like enough human generations have gone by that people before the cataclysm would no longer be alive, which would require at least 70 years to even 100 years to have gone by. so there are some inconsistencies in the story. There were a lot of characters in the story as well, so many in fact that I had difficulties keeping straight each character's story at the beginning. still a good book. I recommend giving it a go!

A great conclusion to a great story!
Revisado: 06-13-21
It's difficult to write a review for this book without giving away spoilers. I would bet that if you're reading through the reviews you probably read the first book and liked it. Now you want to know if the second book is worth the read. IT UNQUESTIONABLY IS! Dig in, for you're about to encounter a book you might just read/listened to in one sitting. I pretty much ended up doing that. The ending was also extraordinary

an absolutely enthralling read!
Revisado: 05-14-21
if there were three words I could describe this as it would be binge-watch worthy, or maybe simply, impossible to put down, well that's four words, whatever. The attention to detail and the obvious research that must have been put into the book made the story feel real, at some points providing very raw feelings. I strongly recommend it!

Great book, I enjoyed every minute!
Revisado: 03-14-19
This is a book you can just race through, even though it's an 11 hour listen. The character development is well done and the romance not forced, but allowed to grow comfortably. There are parts to laugh about (flickers got me in stitches of laughter for some reason lol) and parts where you'll feel your heart squeeze in sadness. My recommendation? This book is definitely worth a listen

if you are a Christian, don't read this
Revisado: 02-19-19
this book contains a thought process that would make a Christian think of God as potentially being an imperfect human. if you do read it, keep in mind the writer's creation in this story reflects borrowed understandings from the Bible that have been corrupted, and should not be viewed as original thought.

a straight up murder mystery that will keep you guessing. Does not really add much to Pendergast's story. it feels like Pendergast got what he needed, a break from family issues.
