Exceptional storytelling, deeply etched characters, and impeccable narration. We need more of this literary art from Mr. Lehane,

A superb well-researched, well-written and well-read book, one which I would recommend to anyone interested in Hume as a person or philosopher.

This was a great book when written, and still is. However, it’s written like an historical travelogue, which requires the listener to stay tuned in. This requires an exceptional reader to keep the listener locked in. There is no better helpmate at this than Grover Gardner! I just finished that nasty old 48 hour The Collapse of the Third Republic- not a chance without Grover leading the way with his first rate skills and incredible preparation!!!

A fast paced thriller/police procedural! Better than Nails Crossing, with more humor and better interaction between Bond and Maytubby. I opted to go with the audiobook this time, and I'm glad I did. Bramhall is perfect for the geographical setting and the cast of Texas/Oklahoma characters. The storyline moves very quickly and Bramhall's pace allowed me to follow the action without breaking a nail. I find Bond and Maytubby endearing characters. Bond reminds me of Sheriff Gunderson of Fargo- stoic, no-nonsense, and completely unafraid (if a little bit crazy). Maytubby is intelligent, ingenious, much more personable, and is central to this story. I certainly would not want these two dogged enforcement officers on my tail for some alleged wrongdoing! I really enjoyed Lackey's latest and can't wait for the next installment!

Excellent story, and a great listen! It is a rare pleasure for me when an author and a reader (or in this case two readers) transport my mind to an interesting time and place, and introduce me to indelible people (and aliens) with unique life situations. In “The Lesson”, the aliens have landed but decide, in lieu of eating us, to co-earth-share, being helpful in some ways, but in others, threatening our collective human existence. So in these circumstances, how do we go on? What should matter to us? And what is real? Should I buy that edgy-looking e.t. a cup of coffee? These questions will now linger with me for some time.

I see real flashes of Graham Greene in this author’s characters and his attention to detail, and also of Robert Heinlein, in his method of seducing us forward slowly with his story. We should have high expectations for Mister Turnbull going forward. And I thank him for this wonderful story!
