Could be a good story without the politics

This could have been a good story, if the author wasn't trying so hard to inject 21st century wokeness into a 25th century plot line,. It felt as if he was more focused on current day cultural, health, right wing fear mongering, and climate issues than putting together a good plot line..

Brandon Frasier's performance was top notch. Vanessa Sears did a fine job considering the badly written dialogue she was dealt. At times I wondered if I was listening to Effie Trinket in the Hunger games or something from a Disney Movie. Regardless, she did a good job narrating it. .

Could not finish this book after two attempts. Michael Gerber's voice is painful to listen to! I even tried speeding up the recording by 30%, which didn't help either. Both attempts, I bailed after the first 15 minutes...

Luckily, a friend of mine had the print edition, which I read instead. With the exception of the Performance rating, my Overall and Story ratings reflect my ratings from the print edition.

Terrible editing, inconsistent narration

As mentioned in other reviews, the editing and narration is absolutely terrible in this book. Names are pronounced incorrectly and edits of the word "Hegemon" are so bad, I wonder if the person editing the audio was drunk.

The story takes a life of it's own and goes a different direction than Ender's Shadow. This book reads more like modern day political fiction than a sci-fi novel. Achille's rise to power just seemed to convenient to me. Specifically, he went from street thug to modern day Hitler after only been in battle school for a few days. It was just to big of a stretch for me to accept this.

I loved Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, however the story has gone such a different direction, I doubt I will continue the Shadow series.

After the slow and steady climax of the story of the first two books, it was a no brainier to purchase this book. This book is the best one yet.

The Chinese have invaded, and easily gained much territory across the Rio Grande. Each battle is a slug fest, with no clear idea of who will be a winner at the end. Both Chinese and American forces have new secret weapons.

I am guessing there will be a 4th book in the series, with new characters and new enemies, but we will have to wait and see.

After I listened to the first book in this series, Invasion Alaska, I immediately purchased this book and started it. At first, I felt duped by the author because it started out almost identical to Invasion Alaska, but with some names changed. I wondered if the whole book was going to be this way.

Luckily it wasn't a rehash of the previous book as the plot went its own direction, and proved to be even better than the first book! In this one, the Chinese and US military are more closely matched and the uncertainty surrounding who will win each battle makes the book draw you in even more.

FYI - While not required, I recommend reading Invasion Alaska before reading this book as this one is a great continuation of the story.

I stumbled upon this book by accident, and was unsure if I should spend a credit on it. I decided to take the plunge, and was glad that I did! Character development is good, and it has a good storyline. This is not the typical "Bad guy attacks America - America's Dominant Army Fights Back - America Wins" kind of book.

Any additional comments?

While I have always considered myself somewhere between agnostic and atheist (pantheist) for the majority of my life, I find this book a hard read. I think Dawkins makes some very convincing points that would make agnostic person look at religion in a new light, however his tone is likely to turn off the target audience. I am half way thru, I have decided not to finish it for a couple of reasons. First, Dawkins' arrogant tone throughout the book gets old quick. At first you kind of ignore it, but after a while it gets really distracting and annoying. After listening to it for a while, you realize that even though he claims to be scientific, he is far from objective in his investigations.Second, The first few hours of the book lay out a good outline of the damage that religion causes to society, to ones self, and to science. After that, it become nothing more then a "bash fest" of how dumb he thinks anyone who buys into creationism really is. At the half way point it does not appear to be getting any better.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Art of Seduction to be better than the print version?

Yes - I have tried reading the print version multiple times, but day to day distractions have prevented that for a number of years now. So had it not been for the audio version, I would have never completed it.

-- and --

No - At times, the narrator tends to put much verbal attention to the word "Seduction". You don't pay much attention to it at first, but after a while it gets distracting. He backs off on the emphasis as the book continues, so it is only a temporary annoyance. With this one exception, Jeff David proved to be an excellent Narrator.

I wish Audible would come up with the equivalent of an audio Table of Contents. There were times I wanted to go back and review some of the previous points but would give up trying to find it again after a couple of minutes. It would be nice if Audible could push down some pre-made bookmarks which approximate the functionality of the Table of ContentsOverall - Excellent listen, recommended if you are a fan of Robert Greene.
