Joining other human cores as part of Earth’s expeditionary force, Hugh must travel across the galaxy to help defend the Krixnas homeworld, but can their combined might stop the invasion and prevent an entire species from being consumed by the Ssath? Hugh, along with his human and Krixnas allies, will have to fight with everything they have - because if they don’t, Earth and the entire human race are next on the Ssath menu.

In the 35th century, mankind has colonized vast reaches of space, yet war remains constant as galactic governments and interstellar corporations fight for control of resource-rich planets and lucrative interstellar trade routes. And if centuries of war has taught man one thing, it's that planets are valuable and lives are cheap.

On opening day of the new baseball season a small model-kit airplane flies down from the stands and buzzes the mound, where a decorated veteran pilot is about to throw out the first ball. The toy plane is the exact replica of the one flown by the war hero. Everyone laughs, thinking it's a prank or a publicity stunt. Until it explodes, killing dozens. Seconds later a swarm of killer drones descend upon the picnicked crowd, each one carrying a powerful bomb. All across the country artificial intelligence drive systems in cars, commuter trains and even fighter planes go out of control.
