It's not as good as I hoped
Revisado: 01-25-21
I enjoyed the first book very much. I expected this to be more of the same and it's just not. The author fails in his attempts to be inclusive and it seems like he's just shoehorning in character traits that are only mentioned once and are not relevant to the character or the plot. Wil Wheaton's narration was fine. He did a better job than the first book, and I don't really have an issue with his style. Overall the book just had too much going on for me to really care. The first chapter spoils the happy ending of the first book and it's all downhill from there.

Interesting plot, excellent narration
Revisado: 02-25-17
I really enjoyed the story. Jeff was a very interesting character and was very believable in the world. The narrator was excellent and really helped bring the characters to life and give them emotion. Overall it was a great book that I would definitely recommend.

Different than I expected, but highly entertaining
Revisado: 09-22-16
I don't know what exactly I was expecting, but what I got was great. Highly entertaining listen, with diverse and believable characters. The dinosaurs were great. I really enjoyed that they fit the up to date theories about their existence, aside from maybe the hyper-violence, which is to be expected of dinosaurs I guess. Overall it was a great story with excellent narration. It you have any issues with violent ends to characters be aware that this is maybe more graphic than a straightforward time travel story.

Runner has a problem. He and 499,000 men and women are trapped in a game. He also just happens to be the only person from IT who could log everyone out safely. And he doesn't remember his password. He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had his memory scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue to how to save everyone. The problem is that whoever loaded them into the game loaded their minds completely.

Not a fan
Revisado: 09-19-16
I listened for 4 hours and I just couldn't get into the story. The characters are not interesting and the group dynamic doesn't work for me. Feels like it's geared towards a young audience, which is usually not a problem but I felt out of touch with the main character. Might be good for gaming fans and middle school boys but not for me. The narrator was good though and his performance of the characters was enjoyable, except for the stuttering character, but that's not really the narrator's fault.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Started out great but had a somewhat weak ending
Revisado: 09-14-16
Personal opinion: I wasn't a huge fan of the big reveal. It felt less sci-fi than the buildup had led me to believe. It was hard for me to accept some of the characters actions and intentions as believable. I don't want to spoil anything but there was a major plot point that lost me for a bit. It got me back but it wasn't quite the ending that really resonated with me. Overall I thought it was good, and if you're into sci-fi with a Lovecraft horror bent you might really enjoy this book.

Historia
Ever since Martin Banks and his fellow computer geeks discovered that reality is just a computer program to be happily hacked, they've been jaunting back and forth through time, posing as medieval wizards and having the epic adventures that other nerds can only dream of having. But even in their wildest fantasies, they never expected to end up at the mercy of the former apprentice whom they sent to prison for gross misuse of magic and all-around evil behavior.

As good as the first
Revisado: 09-07-16
The story was quite good. I was really glad to see more of Jimmy than the previous book, I feel like he really deserved more time after the end of book 2. Despite some minor inconsistencies with Todd's backstory he was actually an enjoyable and decent villain for the group to be in conflict with. It was fun to see the characters ignore some of the danger in the quest to argue with their torturer in a humorous way. There was definitely a good element of suspense and the humor was great as well. I would definitely recommend this book series as a must listen.

Something really strange is happening in the City by the Bay. People are dying, but their souls are not being collected. Someone - or something - is stealing them. No one knows where they are going or why, but it has something to do with that big orange bridge. Death merchant Charlie Asher is just as flummoxed as everyone else.

A weaker book than its predecessor
Revisado: 08-30-16
The story of this book fell flat for me. It felt disjointed and had weird moments and random tangents. The entirety of Mike Sullivan's story seemed out of place and unnecessary and didn't really have any sort of satisfying conclusion. The narration was also weaker than the first. Even with the same narrator it seemed like he forgot which voices belonged to which characters. The man in yellow essentially stole Minty's voice and Minty became even more of a stereotype than before. Charlie spent too much time as a squirrel person and the antagonist of the book wasn't really clear until mostly through with it. Then all of a sudden there were 3 and none of them had any real impact. Overall I'm glad I listened to conclude the story from the first book, but if you can live with Charlie as a small monster you can leave this book alone and just listen to the first, which is much better.

Long ago the earth changed. Billions died. Cities crumbled and civilization as we know it perished. But humanity's drive to live is a stubborn thing, and in the ashes of the old world a new world was reborn. Born of bullets, battle-hardened men and woman scratched out a life on the empty plains of the land now known only as "The Waste". But in a world where every day is a fight for survival a full belly is a luxury, and living long enough to see another rising sun is a success.

Overall a very enjoyable listen
Revisado: 08-30-16
I feel that this short is a pretty good introduction to the main story. For me, someone who hasn't read the main series, this definitely sets up expectations for the world and types of characters. The narration was good, maybe slightly lower audio quality than I might have expected, but was performed well. The bandit characters felt a little cookie cutter, the small smart man and the big simple man, but they served their purpose nicely. In the end I enjoyed the story and it was a nice quick listen. I definitely am going to be checking out RazorWire and possibly the rest of the series.

Good not great
Revisado: 08-18-16
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. It was an excellent listen with a few flaws. Some of the more emotional scenes seemed a bit off to me in narration. Some of the plot threads seemed unnecessary. I also didn't like the handling of some of the characters. I think they made decisions based on where the plot was taking them and not decisions that were typical of their defined character. I enjoyed the listen but the book and narration were not perfect.

A bit of a slow build.
Revisado: 08-12-16
It started out a little slow but it was well worth it for me. There were several moments I genuinely laughed, which for me is rare in a book. The story really sets up the world in a believable way, and I can relate to the nerdiness, which is presented in a much less overt way than Ready Player One. The narration is excellent and I'm excited to continue the series.
