Disappointing plot
Revisado: 12-27-24
A bland predictable plot. Boring. I have liked other books by this author. But wish I’d skipped this one.

Historia
Matt is being punished for a crime he saw, but didn't commit. Instead of being locked up, he is being sent to the middle of nowhere to live with a new foster mom, as part of a government scheme called The Leaf Project. But Matt's new home provides anything but peace and quiet. His new guardian is involved in very sinister things, and the whole town seems to be on her side. The truth is much bigger than Matt or the town, but Matt is the only person who can stop the ultimate evil from being unleashed.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

Tedious. I enjoyed authors earlier novel Babel which was a wonderful creative story. This was trite, predictable and tedious. Narration was fine but story line very disappointing

Historia
Séamas O’Reilly’s mother died when he was five, leaving him, his ten (!) brothers and sisters, and their beloved father in their sprawling bungalow in rural Derry. It was the 1990s; the Troubles were a background rumble, but Séamas was more preoccupied with dinosaurs, Star Wars, and the actual location of heaven than the political climate.

Historia
Henry James’ stories are classic gems of subtle wit and irony. Set in the exacting social landscape of New York City at the turn of the century, Washington Square is the tale of a wealthy but shy young woman caught between conflicting family expectations. John McDonough’s warm narration traces her remarkable inner journey.

Lackluster narration
Revisado: 07-19-19
I love Henry James but the story line in this novel has none of the relational complexity of his other novels. And the lackluster narration doesn’t help. It’s not a great listen.

Very Disappointing!
Revisado: 04-02-19
I downloaded this thinking I would learn about this remarkable woman and her research and instead the story focused on her romance with Pierre Curie. Saccharine and silly As if this was the main achievement of her life. She would be horrified! A good example of what she fought against her whole life-that women are defined by their relationships with men rather than their intellect and independent achievement. Shame on you Audible.

Historia
This first novel in The Deptford Trilogy introduces Ramsay, a man who returns from World War I decorated with the Victoria Cross but who is destined to be caught in a no man's land where memory, history, and myth collide. As we hear Ramsey tell his story, we begin to realize that, from childhood, he has influenced those around him in a perhaps mystical, perhaps pernicious way.
