This book pissed me off so much

I am really angry about the ending but enjoyed the book and it gave me food for thought.

I didn't want to read this because of how much time had past and how much it's been discredited but I'm glad I did. it blends the concepts together really well while referencing what lead up to the book philosophically speaking and gives a great spring board to ideas moving forward.

The 5 people from different backgrounds giving their viewpoint on what Musashi said show a very clear lack of understanding, nuance, culture, history, and religion. in otherwords, they completely miss the mark. I get the whole book of 5 rings so we'll have 4 or 5 different professions comment on this but it's obvious they don't understand what they're reading. It always comes down to the same two things: A story followed by "I agree with him." or a story followed by "I disagree with him, here's why, but he was right." They even talk about how Musashi studied Buddhism but then say something like " I disagree that you should have no preference. Here's a bunch of hypothetical situations where preference is good" and completely miss the point that a preference is a want. In Buddhism, want leads to suffering. Musashi is literally qouting Buddhism.

Anyway, it's a waste of your time. Find the actual book/sayings and reflect on them.

I dont like fantasy

but this was pretty good. It had a couple of weird parts for me where I just wasn't into it or didn't understand why something was in the story but overall it was enjoyable enough that I plan to continue the series.

Good, but...

It was difficult to get into it in the beginning because the audio. I don't know if it needs to be adjust or if the narrator just normally speaks like that. There's a lot of emphasis on the beginning of a sentence and the end with a noticeable drop in between. KInd of like thIS! WHer it starts loud, becomes quiet, and then ends louDLY. I don't know if it got better or if I got used to it.

The transitions from one groups story to the next was also difficult for me at times but overall I enjoyed the story.

The book is a bit slow in the beginning but it gets better as it progresses. I can't even begin to imagine though. I know that this is a book about one man but...it's just too big for one man. I don't know how else to explain it. The book is intriguing, heart breaking, profound, hopeful, and dreary. It's worth the read.

This is a very cool idea and the thinking behind it is well thought out. I've recommended this to many of my friends because it's been years since a story so short was this cool and interesting. Cant wait to read the sequel.

Long but good

It seemed like there was a lot going on and at times I wasn't sure if I was following it closely enough but after having finished it I enjoyed it. The universe that this is set in I would love to see as a tv series. There's just so much going on and then it focuses in and makes it so interesting but that just lets you know that there's way more going on than you even thought!

Boring, Slow, Incredible

I had heard of Charles Dickens but hadn't read any of his works and this book was just dragginggggg along. The story wasn't unpleasant but I felt that there wasn't really much going on and when I checked I was probably 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the book and decided that I would go ahead and finish it since I was this far along. HOW DID HE DO THAT THOUGH?! Just all at once everything came together and I was super interested in the book and wanted to finish it. I'll have to read it a few more times to figure out how he got me so good. I definitely plan on reading more Charles Dickens now.

I went into this with no knowledge of the book or author and when it started I wasn't very hopeful. I really ended up enjoying the book though and found it to have lots of interesting ideas (pertaining to story writing and creativity).
