Historia
Faye Longchamp is overjoyed to be paid to do archaeological work she would have done anyway - excavating a site that was once her family's. But that joy ends abruptly when intruders break into a dear friend's house and leave him dead among the scattered remains of Faye's artifacts.

Faye’s voice has suddenly changed?
Revisado: 12-04-20
I really enjoy Cassandra Campbell as a narrator, and actually found this particular series because I listened to another book by her and looked for more. The previous three books in this series Faye didn’t have a distinctive southern accent, but in this book she does. It’s actually quite distracting and it doesn’t work for me after the previous books. The story is still good, and I enjoy Ms. Campbell as a narrator. It’s just out of place for Faye to suddenly sound completely different.

Historia
It was 335 years ago that a settler in the Virginia colonies completed a sacrificial spell and buried a legendary occult book for the next one destined to find it. Now that person is Darin Dague, a freshman at Jamestown University and deranged sociopath. His chosen target for the spell is his shy, studious roommate, Louis Paige. Even as Louis struggles to put the pieces of Darin's scheme together, he finds himself trapped in a parallel reality where he must prevent his own sacrifice, save the girl he loves, and thwart Darin's plan....

Couldn't get past the narrator's voice
Revisado: 02-02-16
I tried really hard to get through this audiobook, I just couldn't. I can't speak for the book itself because I was so bothered by the narrator's voice that three hours in, I couldn't take any more. There was so little intonation that I kept losing the plot. I'd have to rewind because I found my mind wandering. It's also read extremely slowly. I tried speeding up the pace and that helped somewhat, but even then the narrator's voice just grated on me until I had a headache. Sometimes authors are the best ones to read their own works, and sometimes not. This is a "not." It's a shame because I think I would have enjoyed the book otherwise. I grew up in the area of Jamestown, Va and the premise of the story seemed interesting to me. Sadly, I just couldn't keep focused on it due to the narrator. I suspect if I'd tried to read it myself, this review might have been entirely different.
