Fun zany story until...

Picked it up knowing it was a ridiculous harem fantasy and that's exactly what the first few books are. (spoilers/trigger warnings) Then the cannibalism starts to which I was willing to forgive because is it really cannibalism when the main character is a dragon? That's when the story starts being ok with a stalker who attempts murder being an alright partner... Which was bad enough but then it jumps the shark even more when the protagonist is ok with someone attempting to drug him so that they can violate his consent (r a p e) because if they hadn't drugged him he would have said yes ( that's not how concent works). Overall I really wish the story had ended before the last book where it became painful.

I don't mind trashy literature. What I do mind are the absolutely terrible tropes in this writing. No character development, no relationship development, no interaction that feels organic (or any other O word) is present in this. Add to that a narrator that regularly mangles tone and you get a terrible read. Do not recommend.

pleasant read

I read all three of these books. Overall it was a pleasant story with a hero's journey plotline. The romantic element is nice part of the story. My only real reason for it not being solidly five stars is the predictable progression and the lack of more scenes between the protagonist and his love interest.

Enjoyable

In some ways I think this should be part of an entirely different trilogy. The story is good if a bit heavy handed on the foreshadowing. The indication of what the characters will face is telegraphed to the point where you can sketch out what will happen by 1/4th of the way through. That said it is quite enjoyable and worth following through the rest of the read. Would recommend.

Best in the series so far. Story pace isn't as frantic as the first book. The side characters development is on par with the second book. The world development gave more insight than any of the previous parts of the series.

A good place to start.

This is really where you start reading in this subject matter. In many ways it was and is the first modern text on the subject and this update was needed.

Main Character

As the story continues the main character is the biggest detraction. The side characters especially the dogs are worth it but The Iron Druid himself is so chaotic in his moral outlook swinging from morally bankrupt to nearly Saint like that he is increasingly unbelievable. I will finish the books but I do so only for Oberon.
