Valid observations - overly cynical world view

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-01-08

Many of the observations (aka "laws") are valid. I recognize the overall patterns the author describes in my personal experiences. However, the value ladden commentary is over the top cynical and makes me wonder if the auther has any personal experience with power. In my experience, anyone with this sort of naive and negative view toward the use of power has their power taken away quickly. I find the content interesting and thought provoking, and maybe even helpful in the real world. However, I think the values that the author espouses will not lead to success in any meaningful way.

I liked the reader - she did a good job of keeping the different characters differentiated via inflection & accent. The story kept me engaged and interested, but I felt the author was a little clumbsy in many of the foreshadows used to warn the listener of the plot turns and twists.

I classify this story as an entertaining summer read - it doesn't require much of the listener to participate - and to enjoy you should not spend too much energy questining beyond the basic outline provided by the author.

I found nothing in this book that couldn't be expressed on the book jacket. Story is an important way of communicating with people in business - got it. Storys are used successfully in business to communicate - right. You should use story - OK.
But what makes a good story? How does one go about designing the use of story for a particular situation? If the author eventually answered those questions, I didn't hear it - I could only hold out for the first half of the book. In addition, the reader didn't do anything to make this book easy to stay engaged.
