Not up to the description
Revisado: 04-11-25
The description invokes George RR Martin and Joe Abercrombie. Not even close. Childish writing with some f bombs and poorly written sex scenes. Narration by the author was a mistake.

Historia
The wickedest, most wonderful science fiction story ever created in our - or any - time. Anything can begin at a party in California - and everything does in this bold masterwork by a grand master of science fiction. When four supremely sensual and unspeakably cerebral humans - two male, two female - find themselves under attack from aliens who want their awesome quantum breakthrough, they take to the skies - and zoom into the cosmos on a rocket roller-coaster ride of adventure, danger, ecstasy, and peril.

What a mess!
Revisado: 01-29-25
i should have noticed in the description of the book that is mentioned that there are four sensual and brilliant characters. You have this technical science fiction story peppered with this weird sexual innuendo. Incest was mentioned and the older character doesn't seem to mind if his son in law sleeps with his wife, it sounds like a bad pornhub set up. There is no graphic sex in it just innuendo to the point that it is tedious. Next, each character is referenced by at least 4 different names, except for Hilda, who has about ten different names.
They travel to different universes and wind up in Oz, yes, like Wizard of Oz. That's when I had enough. I could not finish the book, it just got silly.

When Lane Coolman's car is bashed from behind on the road to the Florida Keys, what appears to be an ordinary accident is anything but (this is Hiaasen!). Behind the wheel of the other car is Merry Mansfield - the eponymous Razor Girl - and the crash scam is only the beginning of events that spiral crazily out of control while unleashing some of the wildest characters Hiaasen has ever set loose.

Tedious
Revisado: 04-24-24
A real Elmore Leonard wanna be. He just doesn't have the talent. The author's attention to detail is lacking, things such as a stretch limo that has a 6 cylinder in it, 2 ex NFL lineman that weigh 575 lbs. shows that the author didn't do his homework. It also got boring and tedious due to its length.

As it turns out, an awful lot. Bunny and co are supposed to be keeping a low profile, but nature calls and ironically, one of their party has a hard and fast rule about not answering that call while surrounded by nature. This is how they end up in the wrong bar, surrounded by the wrong people at the wrongest of wrong times. The local right-wing militia has a big week planned, and Bunny and the boys have inadvertently crashed the party. Before they know it, they’re in a desperate fight for survival against a bunch of people who refuse to believe they’re not who they think they are.

Politically Correct Drivel
Revisado: 02-10-24
First the author tells us that racist are the antagonist in this story and that because it is in America he is not implying that Americans are racist. Until I heard this I did not realize that people from the UK thought we were racist. Next, all the racist are one dimensional really stupid a@@holes. Some really easy character development. The racist don't really say racist things, they refer to black people as "African Americans", but they say it sarcastically. He is not a brave writer, too afraid to write from a racist point of view. They do get to say the B word quite a bit. I will not be listening/reading McDonnell anymore.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Ok, worth listening to.
Revisado: 12-08-21
Good adult themed story, kind of gritty and dark. Narrator was very good even though he is different from the first two books.
My complaint is that it got repetitious. He explains how powerful the Queen's men are, then he explains it again every time one of the Queen's men performs any action. Yes we get the same explanation over and over again, it get into the double digits. He also explains how conniving and dangerous Vogel is over and over. We get it the first five times.

All Around great book
Revisado: 11-10-21
Some of the phrases that the author put together are hilarious, yes I LOL for real. They are crude, so if you are easily offended this is not the book for you. It is also the first time that I have really enjoyed listening to an author read their own book, his performance was outstanding. Can't wait for the next installment.

It is 1917, in that sliver of borderland that divides Georgia from Alabama. Dispossessed farmer Pearl Jewett ekes out a hardscrabble existence with his three young sons: Cane (the eldest, handsome, intelligent); Cob (short, heavyset, a bit slow); and Chimney (the youngest, thin, ill-tempered). Several hundred miles away in Southern Ohio, a farmer by the name of Ellsworth Fiddler lives with his son, Eddie, and his wife, Eula.
