Jason Roberts well research book goes a long way to correcting a historical injustice: the general ignoring of Buffon in favor of Linnaeus. Accessible science writing and fascinating history make for a great listen!

This is the third Jean Hanff Korelitz book I have listened to in the last two weeks. I am liking her more and more with each book. She has a great sense of character and writes stories that grab you and make you think.

This very timely story moves crisply and compellingly. The narrator is excellent. One of the best I’ve ever heard. She manages to do the various character voices in a convincing yet non-cloying way.

The day before I wrote this the New Yorker had an article on how many states are making it easier for foster parents to adopt children against the birth parents will. This novel brings up compelling issues in an engaging way.

Mr. Leland’s story is moving, but what I most appreciated was the accessible and engaging exploration of blindness history as well as his clear explanation of current technologies. Married to a blind person for over 20 years, I am surrounded by discussions of blindness-related issues and I was delighted to learn much new information.

The whole story is fascinating, but my favorite part of the story is Alice Kobers passionate and tireless work towards deciphering linear B. She is an unsung heroine of academia!

This is the best non-academic book on race I have read yet. Better than white fragility, better than how to be an anti-racist. If you only choose one book on the history of American racism, choose this.

One of the best books on recent racial history in the US I have ever read or heard of. Up there with The New Jim Crow.
