Historia
In the topsy-turvy world of tax avoidance, you can get richer by buying a yacht, the world's biggest exporter of coffee is Switzerland, and the Duke of Westminster pays less tax than you do. Written with sharp wit and over-brimming with inside secrets, the anonymous authorxshows us that not only does the global tax system encourage dubious practice which favours the rich, but that it was specifically founded with that in mind.

Tax Evasion: The Rich Get Richer, and We Get the Bill
Revisado: 09-14-24
Taxtopia lays bare the absurdity of a tax system that’s rigged tighter than a politician’s handshake. My review? It’s a thrilling ride through the murky underworld of loopholes, where the rich sip champagne, and the rest of us are left footing the bill. A blend of humour and well-earned rage, it makes you wonder if the biggest crime isn’t tax evasion itself but the utter lack of shame from those who pull the strings. A must-read for anyone tired of being screwed by 'the system.'

Practical Leadership Guide: Accessible, Engaging,
Revisado: 04-28-23
In a world saturated with leadership books, Andy's latest offering stands out by acknowledging the abundance of available resources and providing a truly accessible, practical framework for leadership. The book is organized into three distinct areas of focus, supported by 54 insightful leadership lessons that cater to various development needs and challenges.
While I was engaged with the book from beginning to end, readers have the flexibility to navigate the chapters and find guidance on specific topics, making the learning experience both timely and accessible. This approach ensures that the insights provided are relevant to individual growth and development.
On a personal note, having worked at Akamai for almost five years and having met Andy and several of the individuals behind the stories (George the penguin) on numerous occasions, I can easily imagine the situations that informed many of the lessons. Andy has a unique ability to grasp the complexities of working in challenging environments and distil these intricacies into enlightening and easy-to-understand lessons and stories.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book for its balance of practical guidance and inspiration. It serves as both an engaging read and a valuable reference for those seeking to become better versions of themselves and support others on their personal journey. I plan to gift it to my leadership team and recommend it to my industry colleagues.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

A timeless classic on finding meaning in life
Revisado: 01-28-23
Viktor Frankel's "A Man's Search for Meaning" is a timeless classic, and I feel it would resonate with many people today, especially in our fast-paced, always-on, information overload world.
The book's central principle of logotherapy, the idea that individuals can find purpose and meaning in their lives even amidst the darkest of circumstances, is a powerful message that has stood the test of time.
Frankel's ideas on logotherapy share many similarities with the ancient philosophy of Stoicism particularly in the teachings of Marcus Aurelius, who wrote in 'Meditations' about how "the impediment to action advances action."
The Stoic principle of the dichotomy of control, which holds that individuals can only control their own thoughts and actions and not external events, is also evident in Frankel's work
This book not only helped me further understand the human condition but also gave me a renewed perspective on my own search for purpose.
I highly recommend "A Man's Search for Meaning" to anyone who wants to understand the human spirit and the importance of finding meaning in one's life.

Challenges of Intelligence in the Digital Age
Revisado: 12-21-22
"Spies, Lies, and Algorithms" delves into the challenges that intelligence agencies face in the digital age, with a focus on intelligence failures, biases, and the amplifying effects of the cyber domain. Amy Zegart's book discusses how technological advances have created new challenges for intelligence agencies and policymakers, particularly in the realm of cyber security. The complex cyber landscape, where traditional espionage tactics may not be effective and the lines between public and private, friend and foe are frequently blurred, can exacerbate these challenges. Overall, the book is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and national security.

Five words up the guts of this book

passion, perseverance, consistency, patience, and commitment.
Listening to a more refined version of my father talking to me as a child, or my cadet and army instructors barking motivational orders, or the internal talk track in my head when I wanted to give up, or the thousands of halftime talks from rugby and football coaches, was similar in many ways.
My parents actually brought me a framed copy of Edgar A. Guest's poem "don't quit."

Really difficult to listen to
Revisado: 10-03-22
The author appeared to have googled their way through the content and wrote to meet a word quota. Not recommended. The narrator read way too quickly, and perhaps it was just me, but the accent was off-putting.

Mindfulness is not about complicated and otherworldly woo-woo spiritual practices. It doesn't require you to be a part of any religion or a movement. What mindfulness is about is living a good life (that's quite practical, right?), and this book is all about deepening your awareness, getting to know yourself, and developing attitudes and mental habits that will make you not only a successful and effective person in life, but a happy and wise one as well.

comprehensive, somewhat repetitive, good reading
Revisado: 08-20-22
A comprehensive examination of China's strategy against the United States and its allies. This book, while frequently repetitive, lays out a compelling framework, drawing on a wide array of official documents (mostly in Chinese) and many that are not publicly available to present analysis of China's behaviours and their integration into its grand strategy.
Much of the analysis was fascinating, insightful, and provided a new perspective that was not based on a small number of but compelling data points.
The author's conclusion on engaging with China is particularly clear, in the context of neither accommodating nor changing her, and thus a strategic competition is required. The author proposes that the US take an asymmetric approach to blunt China's ascendancy, which is consistent with Kevin Rudd's own assessment and suggestions on 'geo strategic competition.'

Historia
The relationship between the US and China, the world’s two superpowers, is peculiarly volatile. Their militaries play a dangerous game of chicken, corporations steal intellectual property, intelligence satellites peer, and AI technicians plot. The capacity for either country to cross a fatal line grows daily. Kevin Rudd, a former Australian prime minister who has studied, lived in, and worked with China for more than forty years, is one of the very few people who can offer real insight into the mindsets of the leadership whose judgment will determine if a war will be fought.

A great read on US-China geostrategic competition
Revisado: 06-19-22
A must-read for anyone interested in the geopolitical power struggle between China and the United States. Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd provides fascinating and possibly most accurate insights into Xi Jinping's vision for China's development through a framework titled "10 concentric rings of interest."
Equally fascinating are the ten scenarios that could unfold during "the decade of living dangerously," with five of these scenarios involving armed conflict, the magnitude of which few can truly comprehend.
Rudd makes a case for managed geostrategic competition in the last chapter. If we want to learn from history and try to get out of Thucydides' Trap, policymakers need to look into this idea and try to put it into place.
Few commentators are promoting win-win solutions to what is unquestionably the greatest geostrategic competition of our lifetime. Only nationalist rhetoric, a reenactment of history, and a naive march into WWIII. Therefore, it's refreshing to read such learned insights from an individual who arguably is more than qualified on the topic.
Without a doubt, my favourite book on this topic, if only because it offers a way forward.
