Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Real Characters
Revisado: 01-09-24
Before purchasing this book, I read all the negative review but decided to give it a try. Yes, the book was boring in terms of plot and narrator (monotone), I started listening and gave up several time before this book engaged me in a subtle way. All characters were portraited like real human being. Flaw, smart, selfish, kind, silly, weak, all in the mixing. They misunderstood, and then assumed on their own, why other people did what they did, which we the real people did all the time. I particularly like little moments of sharp dialog and reminiscence here and there.

Improbable plot. Slow. Cloyingly sweet. Should never trust review and stars.

Historia
Meggie Meyer, an anxiety-ridden debut author, can’t bear to face her upcoming book tour, but she can’t give up on her writing career just as it’s about to really begin. She comes up with a plan that’s so crazy, it just might work: She hires an actress to impersonate her for the two-week stint. Sloan Buchanan, the spunky aspiring actress, jumps at the opportunity to use her intensive acting method to sink into this unusual role, and the line between her and her character quickly begins to blur. And Rachel Drake, the no-nonsense detective, is left to put the pieces together.

Drag on
Revisado: 12-02-22
Promising start. Then the story dragged on and on.
It seemed to me the author wrote a thriller while trying to do psychological support for her characters's behavior. It doesn't go well either way. Everybody has her or his issues to solve in a way that supported the main theme. But then it didn't really go anywhere and became quite a bored to have to invest time in each character.
For me the dramatization of reading is interesting as well as distraction. I enjoy book in a different way from movie or theater. I'm not sure I like it that much when the two combined.

She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

Another Pendulum Swing
Revisado: 07-13-21
I think American people give too much priority to privacy of their nuclear families Like pendulum swing, this book recommended that it was so great to be back to the more the merrier.
I’m a professional like the author, and yes, I was overstressed and scary when I had to stay alone with my own first born. Luckily I’m a typical Asian parent. It's inevitable that we have grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins around the child all the time to give hands. These are both helpful and annoying, with conflicting advices, opposite practices, rivalry and resentment. Lots of urban people around aren't always ideal or serene as the author feels in a short period of time she stayed with the tribes. You can’t have the best of both worlds.
Like other reviews, I found the narrator voice very annoying. I’d also say I agree with Rosie if she felt her mother talked too much at too high pitch, gave too many instructions (and repetitively) and simply uncomfortable to be around.
For me good concept could get through well without overly emphasizing, giving too many examples and then top it all up with summary (yet again?).

At first quite confusing, then fascinating, then too long with too many sub plots and became boring.
The narrator did her performance very well though.

Original and Disturbing
Revisado: 01-17-20
This book was engaging in a squeamish kind of way. I couldn't stop listening but all the way didn't really like the story. Too too many f words and swearing that listener like me can never get used to. The narrator did a great job though.
I just finished listening to Audible title "No Stone Unturned" before listening to this book. So to me it was truly unconvincing when cases of missing persons was never thoroughly investigated and autopsy never revealed the true nature of crime.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

We all know that without water we couldn't survive, and that sometimes a cup of coffee or a glass of wine feels just as vital. But do we really understand how much we rely on liquids, or the destructive power they hold? Set over the course of a flight from London to San Francisco, Liquid Rules offers listeners a fascinating tour of these formless substances, told through the language of molecules, droplets, heartbeats, and ocean waves.

Underlining with fun
Revisado: 12-11-19
This clumsy simple man sitting among passengers at the flight to San Francisco was a paranoid picky and nerd engineer whose brain was at his full capacity. Who should guess so?
His stories were brilliant.
The information would have been much easier to depict if he gave number in metric scale too, as the rest of the world outside U.K and the U.S. adopt in their daily lives. Mile, Fahrenheit, gallon, pound? not actually made sense to metric system users.

A chance encounter at a summer party on Martha’s Vineyard blossomed into an improbable but enduring friendship. Carly Simon and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made an unlikely pair - Carly, a free and artistic spirit still reeling from her recent divorce, searching for meaning, new love, and an anchor; and Jackie, one of the most celebrated, meticulous, unknowable women in American history. Nonetheless, over the next decade their lives merged in inextricable and complex ways, and they forged a connection deeper than either could ever have foreseen.
