Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

13+ Hours Should Have Been 3
Revisado: 09-18-24
This book has such glowing reviews that I thought it must be me. Then I went back to Audible and read the one and two star reviews and found out that I was far from alone in my opinion. Tedious is an understatement. I like the homage to Hitchcock, and the story itself is good, if too derivative and way too over written. I started fast forwarding as much as an hour more than once, and I didn't miss a thing. The so-called twists were obvious. The only conclusion I can come to is that the author was enamored of his own prose and fancied he was writing the Great American Novel, and instead only managed to pound out a mediocre (not so thrilling) thriller.

Historia
Don’t miss the first novel in a gripping series featuring DI Clare Mackay, perfect for fans of Alex Gray, D. S. Butler and Rachel Amphlett. On the night of a wedding celebration, one guest meets a grisly end when he’s killed in a hit-and-run. A card bearing the number ‘five’ has been placed on the victim’s chest. DI Clare Mackay, who recently moved to join the St Andrews force, leads the investigation. The following night another victim is struck down and a number ‘four’ card is at the scene.

Surprisingly Good
Revisado: 09-14-24
I had my doubts about this title. So many of the female protagonists in this genre are not the intelligent leaders the narration purports. Then there's the narrator. I usually avoid any title read by the author because they rarely have the skill to do it properly. But the main character of this novel was strong and up to the task, standing her ground for what she believed. Even more surprising was the excellent narration by the author.

Every part of the book played out too long. I understand the need to draw out the denoumont for suspense, but when it is so over the top that you are fast forwarding at what should be the most compelling part of the story, you know it's over the top.

Historia
In the shadow of the Pentland Hills, a man has been callously struck down in front of his home. Tyre marks suggest it was no accidental hit-and-run. Somebody wanted him dead and as the man fights for every breath, they might still get their wish. Grappling with the demons he thought he could leave behind after months away on enforced leave, D.S. Malkie McCulloch resists pressure from his superiors to pass the case on to the road policing unit, convinced that whoever was behind the wheel will be waiting for the chance to finish the job.

Ten hours too long
Revisado: 06-17-24
Was looking forward to a new series. I'd listen to most anything narrated by Angus King, but even he couldn't save this tour de force of self-pity and repetition. Half way through I started fast forwarding and every time I never missed a thing.

Listed catagories for this book are misnomers. Gave this dreadful book one star and didn't even deserve that. Multiple narrators, each as bad as the one before. Maybe with better narration, my opinion would be less harsh.

I must be missing something
Revisado: 03-21-20
This book has gotten mostly great reviews, and I can't figure out why. The writing is pedestrian and the narration amateurish. The story is pretty decent, I'll give it that, but the negatives were so strong for me that I couldn't get past the first third of the book. I rarely don't finish an audio book I paid for, but I really couldn't waste my time on this.

Historia
Years ago, Beth Lathrop and her sister Kate suffered what they thought would be the worst tragedy of their lives the night both the famous painting Moonlight and their mother were taken. The detective assigned to the case, Conor Reid, swore to protect the sisters from then on. Beth moved on, throwing herself fully into the art world, running the family gallery, and raising a beautiful daughter with her husband Pete. Kate, instead, retreated into herself and took to the skies as a pilot, always on the run.

Overblown and Overwrought
Revisado: 02-16-20
Not to mention endless exposition. If I had wanted to read a novel about dealing with grief and the unhappy memories that feed it, I would have chosen that sort of book. The constant angst of all the characters, and I do mean all, didn't do much to advance the story line because it consumed most of the novel. About two thirds through the book I had to skip ahead when this went on and on and on. Turned out the outcome wasn't worth it. I should have just stopped listening.

Over the top thriller cliches but a story that was fun to read. The Gray Man was beaten, stabbed, shot, etc. but he kept on ticking. If you like assassin thrillers in the style of the Vince Flynn genre and can get past the writing that sometimes feels like high camp, you will enjoy this as much as I did.

A Big Disappointment
Revisado: 06-12-19
I've read a number of books by this author and while I am not always crazy about everything she writes, this has to be one of the worst books I've ever read. The story was less thriller than a study of the main characters' wretched pasts. Angst ad nauseam. A can of tomatoes ought to have tomatoes inside not creamed corn.
