I kept waiting
Revisado: 09-02-06
I'll give the author credit, he kept me there even though I felt I had a good idea of the ending. Yes, some could say it was metaphorical or symbolic… I wanted something different, yet, in this plot couldn’t see anything other than the outcome. Disappointed, yes…. Surprised….. no.
Not something I recommend unless you like the Stephen King – human –vs – evil and evil humans books….

Interesting Read
Revisado: 11-24-05
Very interesting book to listen to? facts I was unaware of and I closely followed this company. I would have given it a 5/5, if the author better organized the information it often repeats the same facts several times. The author gives both sides of the controversies.
Good overall book.

I seldom provide a reviews - a must read.
Revisado: 09-14-04
I rarely take the time to rate the review the books I read (listen to), however, this book was so well written I felt obligated to return and take the time to do so. I have done hundreds of books, and due to my commute, I often complete two or three unabridged books a month. This book stands out.
This book written is so well you can see it unfold before you and play out before your eyes. Detail and richness flows from the book, and yet it is a very short read? You are there and feel, see, hear, and touch the scenes before you. The balance between action, drama, and emotion keep you entranched in the story.
Very well done, I recommend it highly.

Historia
On May 10, 1998, biologist Craig Venter, director of the Institute for Genomic Research, announced that he was forming a private company that within three years would unravel the complete genetic code of human life, seven years before the projected finish of the U.S. government's Human Genome Project. Venter hoped that by decoding the genome ahead of schedule, he would speed up the pace of biomedical research and save the lives of thousands of people. He also hoped to become very famous and very rich.

DNA/Microbiology 101
Revisado: 02-24-04
The book covers very the discovery and mapping of the human DNA sequence back to Mendel. I give it a 4/5 because it repeats its scientific facts several times during the story telling you as if it was the first time the item was mentioned, this caused it to drag.
If it were fiction, I would accuse it of being to political/emotionally charged? It?s stunning how far the government sector went in funding and rhetoric to ?win? the DNA sequence. It sheds light on the human side of science and discovery, it is unfortunate what that light reveals is greed.

Good Story left hanging at the end.
Revisado: 06-03-03
Story line: 10
Character Development: 9
Length: 7
Plot: 6.5
Ending: 5
I really enjoyed the story, it's told from a narrative of a boy that is 6 years old growing up on a cotton farm in 1952. The story is being retold as the boy is an adult although no present tense references are made... A 7 year old would not have the communication skills to convey this story as it was told...
Very intense at times can be played in front of the children no touchy subjects or language.... The ending was really a surprise. It just ends, I kept waiting for an epilog, but none came... Just kinda leaves you hanging, I don't believe enough story is left for a squeal so I give it low marks on plot, and length...
The characters are very real, it almost seems as if I knew them personally at the end of the book.

Good history into earlier books.
Revisado: 04-28-03
Not a great thriller, especially in abridged format. It basically goes as planned with very little action that would create suspense or nail biting. A good book after the fact, might lend other books more depth but nothing to go out of the way for...
On a positive note, very interesting how history was tied to the events in the book... I am old enough to have first person perspective of the time in this book..
