Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Worth the length
Revisado: 03-29-20
Having loved Eat, Pray, Love, I was eager to read (listen) to Gilbert’s latest book. I have to say it was very long and at times dragged with its detail. But the writing was every bit Elizabeth Gilbert and worth listening to the end. Still thinking about the story and its lessons.

Delightful
Revisado: 06-19-17

Must be, the narrator is perfect
Who was your favorite character and why?
The author on the mission
Which character – as performed by Richard Morant – was your favorite?
Same
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I was not a fan of Westminster Abbey and bought this without knowing it was the same creator. The era of parties dances and debutantes in London in the 60's was unknown to me until now. It was fun reliving those times.

Not a real Coben
Revisado: 04-15-15
What would have made The Stranger better?
Good beginning but gets so unbelievable that I wished I hadn't started. I love his main character who is the same New Jersey lawyer in most of his books, and can't believe he put him through this. The ending is absurd.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Life or death, by the Australian writer
Which character – as performed by George Newbern – was your favorite?
I love the smart quips of the main character but that was it.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Stranger?
The whole second half.
Any additional comments?
It seems to me an avid reader and former big time criminal lawyer that he sold a great idea for a story and didn't know how to finish without getting really wierd.

Good Story , I hope the writer is not a lawyer
Revisado: 02-10-15
What made the experience of listening to The Neon Lawyer the most enjoyable?
The narration is great, the story builds up and is exciting. I listened til 3AM.
What could Victor Methos have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
If he had some idea how one of these cases is tried. There were glaring legal errors and the idea of a Judge permitting a tyro lawyer to try a death case is impossble. But..the story carries it well and a few more corrections he could have made. eg the Jury would have to be death qualified, the prosecution cannot put on psychiatrists until the defendant goes forward.. Any criiminal lawyer would know this was never a "death case"
Which scene was your favorite?
Lawyers opening statement. His closing was limp.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No just enjoyed flaws and all.
Any additional comments?
The writer knows how to keep you into the story. He should have had legal advice to avoid the major flaws. We know its not a death case and the offer is impossible to accept.

An amusing, telling epitaph.
Revisado: 07-01-14
What did you love best about The Last Magazine?
The humourous responses to the seriousness of a news magazine. In particular the alcohol, drugged antics of the foreign correspondent.
Which character – as performed by Ramiz Monsef – was your favorite?
The correspondent.
If you could take any character from The Last Magazine out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Any of the people would be most intersting. The high power people of the press make good dinner dates.
Any additional comments?
The trip to NY in first class is hilareous.

A beatifully sad story well told and well acted.
Revisado: 06-21-14
What did you love best about The Lost Wife?
I liked the way the author wove the two young lovers into a pattern of separate life times. The lost wife lived through the most unimaginal horrors but was able to survive through her art. The story of what happened to Jewish Art during the holocaust is not often told.
What other book might you compare The Lost Wife to and why?
Sarah s Key
What about George Guidall and Suzanne Toren ’s performance did you like?
I thought she was really special. He came across best when he described himself before his grandsons wedding
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did .
