Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Too far fetched
Revisado: 04-14-21
The story is too far fetched. Fiction has to be believable and this is not. The character of the mother was without roots, a little like she was. Danny was too distant. He never got the message. I kept waiting for something to wake him up or to happen to him but nothing ever did. I did like the juxtaposition of Danny’s sexist attitude toward his mother while on his sister he put no such boring expectations. That could have played out better. The father was too heartless to be believed and too stupid. The lawyer was a cad., Nothing meshed. None of this is Tom Hanks fault. His narration was stellar.

Historia
Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

Sometimes hard to follow but very good
Revisado: 04-04-21
This is a good combination of history and fiction. I lived the 60’s and forward so My memories kept Good check on Follett. I had a hard time following all the characters and ended up drawing a family tree to keep track of who was descended from whom. But their stories engrossed me and I think of them as friends. Can’t say the ending was a happy one since I worked for John McCain! But still, it was a good book too much graphic sex not withstanding.

Historia
Ken Follett follows up his number one New York Times best seller Fall of Giants with a brilliant, pause-resisting epic about the heroism and honor of World War II, and the dawn of the atomic age. Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and World War II.

Engrossing and brilliant. A must read.
Revisado: 03-08-21
This book enraptured me. I was sad that it ended. The characters entered my heart. I worried with them and watched them conquer a difficult time. They made me understand that WWII is not just a history lesson. It was real people struggling together to conquer a real evil in their midst. The sex was not as overdone as in The Fall of Giants and I liked that better. Less is more. I am looking forward to The Edge of Eternity next.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Great Story
Revisado: 02-13-21
I really enjoyed this book with all the twists and turns in the lives of the characters and the creation of the cathedral. There was a disappointment which is the the sexual scenes were too graphic and the violence was too gory. In some cases I had to skip past them. But I still enjoyed the great drama !

A psychic Experience
Revisado: 01-27-21
This isn’t a book, it is a psychic experience. My first real adventure into Audible.com, I did not think I could concentrate well enough for such a drop book. Nevertheless, I walked along with John Lee’s voice and I did not miss a beat. I can’t wait to try another.

These are perfect books for audible.com because the English language is so beautifully written and yet not stilted.

Good. listen
Revisado: 08-07-16
I have always been an avid reader, but my eyes are not strong any more. I was afraid I would not have the attention span to be a listener, but it went very well. I'm looking forward to trying something else. Thank u.
