The modern Machiavellian “The Prince”
Revisado: 03-25-24
An important book to understand the mindset of the liberal community organizer. Alinsky teaches how to use religion and crises in order to disrupt the establishment in the acquisition of power. This book describes the liberal mindset today as it did in the 60s and 70s.

Very scientific approach to the study of T
Revisado: 03-24-24
The book studies in depth both animal and human bodies and the effect of testosterone on the physical and behavioral characteristics of each species. The book jumps into some gender ideology toward the end with some influence by current political correctness, though it does not abandon the rigorous scientific approach that characterizes the entire book.

Great story and narrator, inconsistent narration
Revisado: 03-13-24
The text is remarkably thorough and is filled with places, dates, and battles that may be overwhelming.
The narrator is professional, but corrections must have been made, because the narrator’s voice changes sometimes from one sentence to the next when fixing a mistake by re-recording. The frequent change in vocal tone and volume can be distracting.
The book really gives the reader a feel for the life of Alexander and his impact on history down to our day.

Historia
For the last fifty years, we have been fighting a losing war on food. We have cut fat, reduced carbs, eliminated sugar, and attempted every conceivable diet only to find that eighty-eight million American adults are prediabetic, more than a hundred million have high blood pressure, and nearly half now qualify as obese. The harder we try to control what we eat, the unhealthier we become. Why?

Thought provoking observations on food choices
Revisado: 07-07-22
The author presents a broad picture and compelling argument about the effects of manipulating the foods we eat. I was encouraged to eat good and natural foods that feed the body and satisfy our innate cravings. However, I would have enjoyed more practical tips on the application of the arguments he presented.

Historia
The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

Brutally honest, candid, real... and uplifting
Revisado: 06-16-22
The author pulls together a collage of various observations that seem contradictory but which bring out the uncommon wisdom of happiness through detachment.
A very thought provoking presentation to teach us some of the following lessons: It is possible to experience fulfillment by not concentrating on happiness. Stoicism teaches us to find peace by contemplating the worst possible outcome in any scenario. Buddhism teaches us to overcome distractions by not fighting them. Accomplish more by not focusing on specific goals to define success. Learn that it is better not to play it safe in order to really live. Recognize that failure is all around us; embrace it and learn from it. Live well by considering that we will all die.
There are so many insights, I listened through twice to absorb as many as I could.

You've heard of the "Great Books"? These are their evil opposites. From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker.

A thought provoking analysis of the harm done by famous books
Revisado: 06-08-22
Dr. Wiker provides an erudite and highbrow verbal skewering of some famous authors from the past six centuries. The analysis is thought provoking and leads the reader not only to contemplate the ideas introduced in each book, but the negative repercussions of these literary works. It is a reminder to us all of the need to be a discriminating reader of information and to be aware of the ideas we take in from whatever source.

Historia
Revelation is a lens that puts the entire Bible into focus. The lens is focused on the person of Jesus Christ, and his destiny is imminent. This is a book of victory: We are overcomers! We are the ultimate winners in the game of life! (I read the ending: We win!) One of the reasons this book strikes us as strange is because of our lack of understanding concerning the Old Testament. The Book of Revelation consists of 404 verses that contain over 800 allusions to the Old Testament. These are detailed, along with Chuck's analysis of the design and structure of this fascinating book.

A strict literal reading of Revelation
Revisado: 05-31-22
The author takes an uncompromising futurist perspective with historicist perspectives. He is committed to the pre tribulation rapture and the literal millennial interpretation. At times, he is repetitive and sometimes strongly anti-Catholic. It is an interesting presentation, but does not make room for any interpretation that differs from the author’s.
