Not For Most of Us
Revisado: 05-20-19
Numerous stories about professional athletes and already successful financial advisors. If you are a typical worker bee, this isn't for you. Also, as a former CEO, my job was to be available to my employees. This book isn't for someone who needs to be available to help others. Anyone know of a good book for the rest of us?

Historia
A resident of one of LA's toughest neighborhoods uses his blistering intellect to solve the crimes the LAPD ignores. East Long Beach. The LAPD is barely keeping up with the neighborhood's high crime rate. Murders go unsolved, lost children unrecovered. But someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch. They call him IQ. He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.

Not for me...
Revisado: 11-10-17
I listened to the sample and read the reviews and thought this would be a good listen. Then, in less than a minute of listening, the profanity and blasphemy told me I was wrong. I'm not easily shocked, but in these troubled times, you need to hold on to the things you hold dear.

An Interesting Overview
Revisado: 06-12-17
This material could easily fill two or three graduate-level courses in screenwriting . Way too much material for an audio book . In addition, Matt gives many references to TV and movies . If you haven't seen the shows , the references don't help . While I enjoyed listening to the book, this would not be the way to study screenwriting . The printed book along with a workbook with exercises would be better.

Cut through the noise and get your story heard! Have you hit a wall with your church, your ministry, or your nonprofit organization? In spite of a genuine calling, an exceptional team and solid investment in the vision, has your spark never caught fire? If so, your story may be drowning in the sea of messages in our media-saturated culture. We are more connected than ever, but all of this connectivity comes with a price - the most cluttered and distracted culture in history.

Performance gets in the way of Content
Revisado: 11-24-16
Content might be good, but the author/narrator is reading so fast with no pauses I can't appreciate the content. For a book on effective communication, this is disappointing.

Historia
"Houston, we've had a problem here." On the evening of April 13, 1970, the three astronauts aboard Apollo 13 were just hours from the third lunar landing in history. But as they soared through space, two hundred thousand miles from earth, an explosion badly damaged their spacecraft. With compromised engines and failing life-support systems, the crew was in incomparably grave danger.

A Flight That Failed and Innovators That Prevailed
Revisado: 08-24-15
For me, reliving these few days from the past was a reminder of what makes our country great.
Thirteen's journey was launched by a visionary leader eight years earlier... "We choose to go to the Moon in this decade, do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win ...."
That vision was accomplished by our brightest and best. Men and women in the private sector and military working together to solve the challenges as they came. We were, and still are, a nation of innovators. Those same innovators were there to coax the wounded spacecraft home.
That same spirit still lives today, though you would be hard pressed to see it in the headlines. We are still a country that will choose to do the hard things. "Thirteen" reminded me of that.

Delivers on its promise with 1 important exception
Revisado: 06-05-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe. The material in the Audible book goes by so fast. I was encouraged when the Author said he listed resources on his website. Several busted links on that site but only a few resources and great deal of pressure to sign up for paid content. That's not what the book teaches. I like it when the added material pdf is delivered by Audible with the download. Not this time.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jim Cockrum? Why or why not?
Not an Audible edition. Maybe a Kindle version. With the Audible edition, you would need to sit a take notes. Audible books are books on the go.
Which character – as performed by Sean Pratt – was your favorite?
This is non fiction. I've listened to a number of Sean's narrations and his style grows on you.
Was Free Marketing worth the listening time?
Yes, but now that I've visited a number of the author's websites, I'm not sure he practices what he teaches.
Any additional comments?
Lately, I've been working with web marketing in the online real estate arena. I've learned that I don't like high pressure sales techniques there. In listening to this book, I was hearing that you build a relationship and trust with a potential customer without high pressure. The author teaches you to offer valued material for free and when you do sell something have an incredible money back offer. That's not high pressure. I like that message. As with all books, you always learn something. Sometimes it is what the author teaches and sometimes it is what you believed before you read the book. In this case, it was a little of both.

When Jen, the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found, surfaces in Sherriff Walt Longmire's jurisdiction, it appears to be a windfall for the High Plains Dinosaur Museum - until Danny Lone Elk, the Cheyenne rancher on whose property the remains were discovered, turns up dead, floating face down in a turtle pond. With millions of dollars at stake, a number of groups step forward to claim her, including Danny's family, the tribe, and the federal government.

Walt Never Fails
Revisado: 05-14-15
Where does Dry Bones rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The entire series is excellent. Without a doubt, this series would be at the top of my list. Dry Bones is just one more feather in Craig Johnson's war bonnet.
What other book might you compare Dry Bones to and why?
Some of the earlier Stephanie Plum books were good and Lorelei King is an excellent narrator, but nothing compares to this series. From this series, "As the Crow Flies" was great, as well.
Which character – as performed by George Guildall – was your favorite?
I really identify with Walt, but all of George's characterizations are excellent.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The entire department is discussing the arrival of Walt's 5 month old grand daughter for a visit and Walt asks, "what is a pack and play?" "Portable solitary confinement," is answer. The character's work so well together.

I Couldn't Buy Into It
Revisado: 10-19-14
What disappointed you about Pitch Anything?
The concept is you can pitch anything by seizing the moment and dominating the meeting. I've sold millions of dollars of new technology to companies like Walmart, Walgreen, and Deluxe and I never met a buyer like Oren describes. If the product (or concept) makes economic sense, you don't need a gimmick.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Currently I'm into web marketing and communication.
Did Oren Klaff do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
This is nonfiction. What characters?
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Even if I disagree with the author, listening still sharpens my skills.

Try Fighter Pilot Instead
Revisado: 08-08-11
I listened to this after Robin Old's Fighter Pilot. The title is misleading. This is more of a puff piece for George McGovern. If you want a much better look at what was promised in this book's title, listen to Fighter Pilot.
