Historia
This “beautiful, brave book,” (Jenna Bush Hager, the Today show) is the story of Rebel Wilson’s remarkable personal transformation, from a painfully shy child in Australia who literally had to be dragged to drama classes and achieved break-out success in the US through iconic roles in Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids, and Isn’t It Romantic.

Only criticism would be too much jumping around in time, but that's something that always drives me crazy about autobiographies.

I'm Excited to Age!
Revisado: 01-10-24
This book completely changed the way I see ageing in myself and others. "Face" and Naomi Wolf's "Beauty Myth" should be required reading for all women.

Historia
The bestselling classic that redefined our view of the relationship between beauty and female identity. In today's world, women have more power, legal recognition, and professional success than ever before. Alongside the evident progress of the women's movement, however, writer and journalist Naomi Wolf is troubled by a different kind of social control, which, she argues, may prove just as restrictive as the traditional image of homemaker and wife.

Revisado: 01-10-24
Honestly, I will never see the female body the same way again. This book has completely changed not only the way I see myself, but the way I see other women. This, along with Justine Bateman's "Face" should be essential reading for all women.

Historia
I haven't tasted chocolate for over ten years and now I'm walking down the street unwrapping a Kit Kat. Remember when Kate Moss said, 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'? She's wrong: chocolate does. At the age of 32, after ten years of hiding from the truth, Emma Woolf finally decided it was time to face the biggest challenge of her life. Addicted to hunger, exercise and control, she was juggling a full-blown eating disorder with a successful career, functioning on an apple a day.

Surprisingly Offensive
Revisado: 01-09-24
I've read dozens of memoirs about eating disorders, and I've never read an anorexia book with so much fat shaming. I kept expecting her to revoke or apologize for her wording. Throughout the book, she talks about lard thighs and fat bums and saddle bags, all the while saying how disgusting it all is. She claims that no woman wants an extra ten pounds added to their bottom, but that is absolutely false. I was recently in Mexico where I saw several women with butt implants. She mentions Naomi Wolf's "Beauty Myth", but it certainly doesn't seem like she's actually read it. Naomi is constantly repeating how normal and healthy female fat is. Of course I understand that many women see fat as "disgusting", but if you're writing a book on anorexia, claiming to want to help people, you should never use that kind of harmful, hurtful language. All the while she's claiming that anorexia isn't about being thin. I sincerely hope that in her next edition of this book, she leaves those words out, or at the very least, apologizes for them. I was going to read her other book next, but I don't think her harmful, abusive language would be good for my mental health. I'm so disappointed. (I gave 4 stars because the writing itself and narration is well done.)

4 Stars from an atheist.
Revisado: 02-13-23
I'm an atheist and am giving this 4 Stars, because I can't deny that this book is well written, and the narration is flawless. Dude quotes word for word what he believes God is actually saying to him in the woods, which is inarguably laughable, but his overall story is more interesting than a lot of books I've read/listened to about the AT or PCT. This book doesn't deserve the one and two stars that you see here. Just go in knowing you're going to hear a lot about Jesus, and you'll be fine. I think the only thing that truly bothered me was his irritational hatred for piercings and tattoos.

Historia
In Journeys North, legendary trail angel, thru hiker, and former PCTA board member Barney Scout Mann spins a compelling tale of six hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2007 as they walk from Mexico to Canada. This ensemble story unfolds as these half-dozen hikers - including Barney and his wife, Sandy - trod north, slowly forming relationships and revealing their deepest secrets and aspirations. They face a once-in-a-generation drought and early severe winter storms that test their will in this bare-knuckled adventure.

Misleading and sloppy.
Revisado: 03-04-22
It's a shame that someone who is a good writer can be such a terrible storyteller. There were way, way too many different people in the story (many could have been easily left out) to keep track of. This was made even more confusing by the fact that half the time their trail names are used, and half the time their real names, with no rhyme or reason. There were so many random people mentioned, it felt as if the author just made promises to these people that they'd be in his book some day. He must have owed a lot of favours.
The beginning of the book, you're lead to believe something exciting is going to happen. After waiting until the very last few chapters, it turns out to be a misunderstanding.
I'm so grateful that I didn't waste a credit on this one.

Vincent is a bartender at the Hotel Caiette, a five-star glass-and-cedar palace on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island. New York financier Jonathan Alkaitis owns the hotel. When he passes Vincent his card with a tip, it’s the beginning of their life together. That same day, a hooded figure scrawls a note on the windowed wall of the hotel: “Why don’t you swallow broken glass.” Leon Prevant, a shipping executive for a company called Neptune-Avramidis, sees the note from the hotel bar and is shaken to his core.

Revisado: 02-15-22
I stuck with this because it was recommended to me, but I have no idea what I just listened to. way too many different characters and too much jumping around in time, between different people and even someone's imagination. I have no idea what this book was supposed to be about. I couldn't even name more than 3 or 4 of the main characters. I want those hours of my life back.

Negative reviews are from incels.
Revisado: 01-31-22
Reading all the negative reviews here, I can only see that they're from incels and rape apologists, or people who don't recognize their own privilege. It's weird that people complained about her being privileged, because she's not only well aware, but it's pretty much the reason she wanted to do the hike alone. Other negative reviews were from people who expected it to be just a book about the Pacific Crest Trail, which it doesn't claim to be. The narrator was good, but I always dock a point when people try to do accents, or a dumb voice for a different gender.

Revisado: 01-03-22
Allen Carr must be an android Without taste buds. "Food only tastes good if you're hungry"? Maybe if you're eating British Food, but I don't relate to this at all. The food I eat definitely tastes good long after my stomach is full.
He keeps saying there's no catch, but there definitely is. Which is that he tells you what your favourite foods are.which he's dead wrong about.
I'm actually pretty bummed out that I wasted a credit on this. I learned literally not one thing that is true, and the rest is horsepoop.

I really liked the story and loved the performance. It was a bit short, but I'd still have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the God stuff.
