Everything I could have wished for!
Revisado: 08-05-15
I don't remember the last time I teared up because I was so sad a book had to end. The Princess Bride was a huge part of my childhood and influenced me in so many ways as a person and as a writer. To hear the whole cast reminisce on their experiences and learning new things about a film I know as well as the back of my own (not six-fingered) hand was pure joy. While the writing is fantastic, the audiobook took everything to a whole new level hearing these very personal experiences from the people themselves, and kudos to the pro job of proofing, editing, and sound mixing of the staff that produced this. Quite simply, it is everything an audiobook should be, and I couldn't have wished for more!

Historia
After surviving a kidnapping and battling with spriggans, Matilda Whipplethorn finds her life in a suburban human house pretty boring. She's been excluded from school because of her fire-making abilities and her former friends are afraid of her. Salvation comes in the form of a life-threatening illness. Her tutor, Miss Penrose, needs a medication and there's only one place to get it, the spriggans. Matilda heads back to the antique mall to save Miss Penrose even though it just might cost her everything.

A lighthearted listen with an upbeat narrator
Revisado: 02-28-15
This story was humorous and surprisingly dark in parts - fans of fairies and fantasy will love this book, and can appeal to a wide range of audiences. Most enjoyable though was Ms. Knotz's energetic narration that is a natural fit with the fast-paced plot. Her vocal versatility among various both male and female characters, old and young, is masterful and consistent, and gives the story more dimension in audio form. The youthful and bright voice she gives Matilda is appealing without being overdone, and the even though it is the second book in the series, it works well as a standalone. Audio quality is also excellent.

Historia
Taken together, the works of H.P. Lovecraft create a terrific world of Elder Gods, ancient aliens, and cosmic horror. This new, original collection of Lovecraft’s earliest stories lay the foundation for that world, and prefigure many of his later, infamous tales. In “The Nameless City”, an intrepid explorer encounters a shunned, crumbling city in the desert, older than the earliest known of humankind, but perhaps not as abandoned as was thought.

Feeling the love for HP Lovecraft
Revisado: 02-27-15
Hellegers' deep, rich voice conveys a sense of cultured aristocracy with a tinge of the uncertainty of one who has experienced terror so great as to be scarred for all time. Most haunting is the fourth tale, "The Music of Erich Zahn," which tells of a young man who rents an apartment in a rambling old mansion and finds he has a rather...interesting neighbor. He is an old man who must play his music furiously through the night to keep at bay some kind of all-consuming evil force threatening to rip out of its world into ours at any moment. What is enjoyable about Hellegers' narration is the sense of doubt underlying his tones as he embodies the questionable psyches of the main narrative voices in each story. He understands that the characters in the story know how crazy they sound - and they don't care. All that matters is the story be told before it is too late. It helps that Hellegers doesn't take himself too seriously - he reads the work with a comfortable flow that eschews stodginess so often affected in retelling classic works of literature. His desperate, cautionary edge, honed to a sharpness with well-placed dramatic pauses and rising inflections, creates a polished finished product that will satisfy fans of Lovecraft and help usher in new ones. It is a great introduction piece to Lovecraft's writing, a prequel for the masterpieces that he would later write.
