Historia
Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

“Those who cannot remember the past...
Revisado: 12-03-21
... are condemned to repeat it.” Ken Follett did not write this book to entertain you. Remember his opening statement. If the reader is comfortably not knowledgeable of world cultures, geography and ethnic tensions large and small, he will not understand the book and will reject it. Look at the big picture. The sequence of events and human error are perfectly plausible. Unfortunately. God save us.

Historia
It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages. England is facing attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Those in power bend justice according to their will, regardless of ordinary people and often in conflict with the king. Without a clear rule of law, chaos reigns. In these turbulent times, three characters find their lives intertwined.

Historia
Who formed the first literate society? Who invented our modern ideas of democracy and free market capitalism? The Scots. As historian and author Arthur Herman reveals, in the 18th and 19th centuries Scotland made crucial contributions to science, philosophy, literature, education, medicine, commerce, and politics - contributions that have formed and nurtured the modern West ever since. This book is not just about Scotland: it is an exciting account of the origins of the modern world.

Too long
Revisado: 01-12-20
Well written, well performed, but too detailed in scottish political and intellectual history. I gave up midway because the question on how scots invented the modern world was taking too long. I never did find out. An abridged version would be more suitable to my interest.

Historia
A rags-to-riches tale, Jonah's journey spans the breadth of human experience, from the intricacies of Edward III's political intrigues to the cutthroat world of international trade, from the triumphs of war to the agonies of personal loss - love, friendship, joy, heartbreak and glory. Set largely in London, the Scarlet City, the centre of medieval England, the Scarlet City trilogy is a thrilling portrait of the age and the people who made it so rich, colourful and extraordinary.

Excellet. Wonderful performance.
Revisado: 03-12-19
I participated in setting up a technical school for apprentices, thus the title caught my attention. The three parts were excellent, with vivid characters, twists, turns and a lot of medieval English history. The performance, using various actors for each character, plus sound effects of the scene, made for a new dimension in audio book listening. Very realistic, much like the very popular radio theaters half a century ago. I have 300 books in my Audible library. These three are the best performed. This is how all audio books should be recorded.

A stunning memoir from the astronaut who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station - a candid account of his remarkable voyage, of the journeys off the planet that preceded it, and of his colorful formative years. A natural storyteller and modern-day hero, Kelly has a message of hope for the future that will inspire for generations to come. Here, in his personal story, we see the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will, and the boundless wonder of the galaxy.

Any additional comments?
A great story! I had been wanting to know more about the International Space Station. This audiobook delivered. I, being an engineer and amateur astronomer, would have enjoyed more technical information, but then the range of listeners and readers would probably be reduced. The human story, however, does compensate.
Scott, you're an inspiration to determination and perseverance. Here's an idea to bring together two great human endeavors: Go to Grytviken in the South Atlantic Ocean and lay flowers at Sir Ernest Shackleton's grave.

Unacceptable pornographic violence
Revisado: 03-31-17
Would you try another book from Douglas E. Richards and/or Peter Berkrot?
No. This was the second an last.
What could Douglas E. Richards have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Tone down the extreme violence of chapter four, where a mercenary murders a child.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Overdone drama.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger at having to hear extreme violence. I immediately quit listening at chapter 4 and returned the book.

Historia
Between April and July 1944, Truman Smith flew 35 bombing missions over France and Germany. He was only 20 years old. Although barely adults, Smith and his peers worried about cramming a lifetime's worth of experience into every free night, each knowing he probably would not survive the next bombing mission. Written with blunt honesty, wry humor, and insight, The Wrong Stuff is Smith's gripping memoir of that time.

The only book I've listened to a second time
Revisado: 11-05-16
Where does The Wrong Stuff rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Wonderfully entertaining in a macabre sort of way. The characters are young B17 crew members determined to survive their bombing missions over Europe in WW II. They are full of life and wry humor. The story is read in a humorous way, very appropiate. The characters much reminded me of my own youth, camaraderie, idiosyncracies and experiences in my military high school.

Historia
In the grand storytelling style that is his signature, James Michener sweeps us back through time to the very beginnings of the Jewish faith, thousands of years ago. Through the predecessors of four modern men and women, we experience the entire colorful history of the Jews, including the life of the early Hebrews and their persecutions, the impact of Christianity, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, all the way to the founding of present-day Israel and the Middle East conflict.

Revisado: 09-11-15
What would have made The Source better?
I’ve read most of James Michener’s books, on paper. The Source was my favorite, so although I seldom ever reread a book, this was a perfect Audible choice.
The book is as great as ever; however, the performance is so overdone that the distraction did not allow me to suspend disbelief and immerse myself into the story.
Larry McKeever is a bass baritone voice. The articulation borders on speech class drills and the deep roll offs are excessively fabricated. The reading is unconnected, and sound stress is not American English natural. For example, assuRED, laND, startED.
Many will love his voice. In my case, I became so distracted I returned the book after just a few hours. Apparently, I’m not alone.
