Historia
Chief for the year, Aukul's life has never been better. His people respect him, he spends his nights with the love of his life, and his skills as a butcher and chef improve every day. Then Ineluki, a young stranger, wanders into town with nothing but an empty book. He begins telling stories of the world beyond the one they know. His stories challenge their reality and lead to a summer of unprecedented disasters. One by one, the villagers begin dancing. Dancing tirelessly as if in a trance until they die. Believing Ineluki is to blame, Aukul confronts him on the worst night of his life.

Headline
Revisado: 10-19-22
This was a simple story reminiscent of a native legend or folk tale. The story takes place with a hunter-gatherer type of people living near the oceans. The story seemed similar in tone to the Terror. The story was somber and dark. Occasionally I was pulled out of the story by out-of-place phrases, and there was a lot of sex involved in the story (nothing pornographic but pervasive throughout the story).
Ultimately, the book wasn't really for me, but I received a complimentary copy in exchange for a review. The book kept my attention and it really is a short read. I would recommend it to people who like dark, modern, native legends-type stories.

Historia
Jasper’s only friend, Ethan, is dying. Jasper is a gremlin with enough power to level a city, but the magical energy he placed within Ethan to keep him alive is fading. Ethan’s only hope lies in the very artifact that nearly killed him in the first place: The Everflame. The two join forces with Linna, a young pirate woman coming into her own powers, and Avril, the personification of fate itself. Unfortunately, they aren’t the only ones seeking the artifact. Hunted by their old friend Yon and his army of monsters, they set out to claim the Everflame.

Fun Quest Book
Revisado: 03-01-21
I received this book from a promo credit on Reddit and listened to the entire book today. I enjoyed the friendship between Ethan and Jasper and how they took Linna under their wing as she learns to be a Vision. The book progressed as many quest-themed books do; however, the magic system was pretty unique and piqued my interest. While the book doesn't make this connection, I felt like the Vision magic system is almost like people discovering they are the god of something i.e. god of love, fun, animals, etc. This aspect seemed pretty interesting and drew my attention.
The pacing was pretty decent for the most part, though it seemed the ending wrapped up pretty quickly and could've used some more stake raising. Additionally, I would've also appreciated more screen time for the villain. It felt like the villain's motives were just a little bit arbitrary and could've used more fleshing out beyond the reasoning given in the book.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and think that this will be a good start for future adventures. Keep writing and publishing Nadir!

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

A Survival Story for a Modern Society
Revisado: 07-31-20
This book pairs well with Max Brooks other works, it is primarily a survival story against the backdrop of cryptozoological creatures. This story illustrates how modern society creates silos that, when everything goes wrong, can create the perfect horror story.
I enjoyed seeing how the author shows his character's realization of their predicament and how they slowly adapt to what is happening.
I enjoyed the diary format that is supplemented with interviews with others in the world. It provided a unique reading experience and allowed me, the reader, a fuller image of what was happening in the diary and the significance of the actions of the Bigfoots.
I enjoyed the book and listened to it almost straight through. I almost think the horror doesn't come from the Bigfoots, but the realization that our daily lives make it difficult to deal with the harsh realities of life when society fails us.

One of the best books I read this year!
Revisado: 09-14-19
The Rage of Dragons is one of the best fantasy books I have read this year.
I finished this book earlier today after starting it yesterday. By hour two I was completely hooked. I would've finished it in one sitting but my wife came home. I got about halfway through the book and I couldn't stop thinking about it all night.
First thing this morning, I started the book up again to see what happened to Tau. The pacing was excellent and the book didn't drag. Right as I thought I figured everything out, the plot thickened and drew me further in. About 3/4ths through the book, I knew there was no stopping until I finished.
I finished the book about 8 hours ago and I can't shake thinking about the book. The book really drew me into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. I felt their frustrations and their triumphs, which is a testament to Winter's writing ability. I keep thinking about the main character, Tau, and what is in store for him in book two.
Overall, the main character had an amazing journey and the resolution was solid while making book two tantalizing. I can't wait for book two!

Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

Great World, Poor Ending
Revisado: 06-04-19
The endings was very much "Ex Machina" and it seemed like the climax and the resolution together lasted about 10 minutes. It was a pity because i really enjoyed the beginning of the book. the world is rich and wacky and zany. it just seemed that the author got tired of the book and just ended it arbitrarily.

Historia
Professional heroes kill and loot deadly monsters every day, but Gorm Ingerson's latest quest will be anything but business as usual. The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. That's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

Great story that leaves you talking about it after
Revisado: 02-03-19
My wife and I listened to this on a roadtrip and we liked it so much that we sat in the car after we arrived to finish listening to it. The story was a fun twist on fantasy and real life finacial markets that go together perfectly.
The charachters were real and fleahed out that my wife vocally exclaimed at events in the characters' lives.
There was also lots of intrigue and plenty of foreshadowing and clues left, that my wife and I could guess and talk about the different elements of the story. It is always great when a story leaves you talking about it afterward.
The book was so good, I immediately bought the second one upon finishing this one and can't wait for the 3rd.
10 out of 10, will recommend to all my friends.
