Historia
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

not at all what I expected from Grisham
Revisado: 12-26-11
What would have made The Litigators better?
SOME kind of drama in the story would have helped - there was absolutely none.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?
Not if they're anything like this one.
What three words best describe Dennis Boutsikaris’s performance?
Probably a great narrator for a different kind of book, but I think he may have contributed to a lack of gravity in this book. I sure do miss Frank Muller!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Litigators?
Nothing stood out as particularly bad, there just wasn't anything that was particularly good.
Any additional comments?
I recall really enjoying Grisham's previous works immensely. They always managed to get me emotionally involved - emotionally wrapped up in what happened to a particular character.Part of the way through this story, I realized something was really missing. There was just no emotional involvement. I could've put the book away at any point and never really wondered what the outcome would be. Sure, it's a vaguely interesting legal story as some reviewers have mentioned, but certainly no more so than a mediocre TV episode of something like Law & Order.

great series
Revisado: 12-12-11
Would you listen to On the Grind again? Why?
If I had it to do over again, I certainly would listen to this one again. Cannell always leaves you guessing as to what might happen to Scully, and this book goes even further than usual.
What other book might you compare On the Grind to and why?
I enjoy many of the mysteries and thrillers. Of course, there are vague parallels between Cannells' Scully, Connelly's Harry Bosch and DeMille's John Corey, but all are interesting to get to know.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Scott Brick is consistently high caliber with his narrations, and this is no exception. It's just great how he's able to handle many different voices and accents.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I don't ever get a chance to listen to a book all the way through, but this was one of the better ones for making me want to get back to it.

This book has been a blast! There is mystical intrigue, historical perspective, scientific application and modern day issues all combined in an entertaining, coherent story. Even after 20+ hours, I was sad to see it end.

1963. It was the year of the Profumo Scandal, the Great Train Robbery, the Kennedy Assassination...and the Mickledore Hall Murder. The guests at the hall that weekend had included a Tory minister, a CIA officer specializing in dirty tricks, a British diplomat with royal connections, and Cissy Kohler, a young American nanny who had come to England for love. And love kept her in England for nearly 30 years. In jail. For murder.

I can't think of any other audiobook I've not been able to get through eventually, but I've started this one 3 times now and am not able to understand enough of the narration to get any idea of what's going on. Make sure to listen to the sample before you buy it!

a romance story, all right
Revisado: 09-07-07
The last reviewer was dead on about this being a romance series. In the publisher's review, I took this as a great sounding science fiction/fantasy story. If you take out the lovemaking and related action, there's very little. The remainder is compelling, certainly, but very little.

Historia
This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

incredible
Revisado: 06-07-07
I've never had a book get me so thoroughly engrossed, and it has stuck in my mind for weeks now after finishing it. The story is just incredible, with amazing depth of feeling and insight. And the narration is just amazining - every character came alive in entirely individual ways.
I've had a lot of audiobooks I've enjoyed, but none that have made this kind of mark. I just can't say enough about it!

not too gripping
Revisado: 04-02-06
I thought there would need to be some kind of twist at the end of the story, especially since there were no surprises along the way. However, the only twist was one that I'd suspected all along, but just didn't have quite enough information to confirm. The story was written all right, just not as gripping as some. But with the dramatic reviews, I was expecting much more.

I usually go for the more "exciting" books, but thought I'd try this one. Even after buying it, it took a few months to get around to listening to it. But I have to say it was the most engaging book I've read or listened to in a long time, maybe ever. And the story was performed perfectly by the narrator. I like everything about it!

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

intriguing premise, but difficult to tolerate
Revisado: 12-17-04
If you could overlook just how ignorant the main character was of anyone else's intentions, it was an intriguing book. The guy was a real dope. And it was a shame that most of the questions that came up during the story were only answered in the summary at the end, rather than truly being part of the story - like Crichton got tired of writing and just wanted to quickly tie up the loose ends in one paragraph. Where "Timeline" was one of the most thoroughly memorable books I've ever been through, this one will be notable only with respect to it's unfulfilled potential.

what a letdown
Revisado: 11-17-04
It's interesting to see previous reviews - people have either really liked it or hated it. Other than maybe the last 15 minutes, I'm baffled as to how anyone could have truly enjoyed this book - I stuck it out only because of the promise of some kind of excitement. The first 3/4 of this book is spent on this family's (boring) daily activity - no hint of anything even being amiss. And when the "suspense" hits, it lasts for about 10 minutes. If you're looking for a book describing the daily activities of a Mormon family, this is the book for you.
