First, I want to thank Andy Weir for writing a book I can share with kids who like science and good fiction. It proves you can write a good book about difficult topics, with multifaceted characters and amazing dialogue without all the unnecessary foul language.

With that said, a well constructed story of doing something beyond your inclinations, but also reaching out and figuring out a way to create bonds with those you think you can have nothing in common with.

The audio book was also fun to listen to. Highly recommend listening.

For a book about gruesome things, this was a fascinating read. The horrible details weren’t skirted, but the way it was written made it easier to manage the awfulness of the crimes while understanding how these killers were sought and then caught, and then, more importantly kept under lock and key. The skill these agents have almost seems like magic, until you appreciate their methods behind understanding the mind of the murderers.

Also enjoyed the history of this division of the FBI. Glad to know there is more than the legacy of Hoover to come out of the Bureau.

I enjoy this series. I initially purchased because Richard Armitage was the reader, but soon found a good storyteller in Joy Ellis. What I found was real relationships in a difficult work environment, in an interesting venue. Real concern and respect for each other, and the victims of the crimes, is evident for the men and women in these stories. Good characters with flaws, but essentially trying to do good.

What made the experience of listening to Double Cross the most enjoyable?

You cannot make the characters in this book up. Well written, well read, and such an outrageous collection of characters, real people, eccentric people, brave men and women who played an important part in collecting and sending miss-information during WWII. I seriously wonder why this hasn't already been made into a mini-series.

Any additional comments?

The Fall of the Berlin Wall is one of those events that are burned into my memory. I was a child of the Cold War and hoped, but never believed, I would see in my life time the fall of the Berlin Wall and the break up on the Soviet Union. After the crack down and blood shed of the Tienanmen demonstrations, the seemingly unexpected and peaceful opening of the Wall was just too good to be true. Interestingly I never really understood how it all came about and how regular East Germans where the catalyst, particularly Christian ministers, in setting the ball of discontent in motion. The well researched and written book was surprisingly moving. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good story.

I had heard a quick clip with the author on the radio and thought the book about his experiences leading a band of National Guard Green Berets in Afghanistan sounded like something worth looking into. That thought paid off.

In our current climate of fear and retribution toward those whose cultures we do not share or comprehend, Ronald Fry's leadership in Afghanistan creating a culture of respect and understanding, and practical, meaningful service should be duplicated in every action the Western world engages in. I was consistently moved at the wisdom of humble choices that engaged respect rather than anger or hatred in an area of the world with a history of violence and imperialistic efforts to force submission.

This was not just a memoir of war, but a "how to" of winning all wars of cultural differences, and I found myself riveted, and surprisingly moved by the outcome of the efforts of the men, both American and Afghani, to clearly be willing to embrace the concept that peace is attainable if we just clear out our own prejudices, and be willing to listen and learn from one another.
