Woke Hallmark Story
Revisado: 12-07-24
Because I wish I had known before I wasted a credit, this is just a woke Hallmark story. The first half of the book is tedious and the author waits until there's 2 hours left before adding that the cactus has chosen they/them pronouns. I found that distracting, but I was bored listening to the story so whenever the characters referred to the single cactus as they, I at least had to try to figure out who was being referenced. The lesbian couple thrown in at the end was also fairly predictable. Overall, this book was not for me, but if you're looking for a woke Hallmark story where everyone kisses the MC butt no matter how rude and unlikeable she is, this is the story for you.

Couldn't finish
Revisado: 05-29-24
I tried to make it through, but I just couldn't. The dialogue is SO bad. The cringe was so strong that I was almost in pain. Maybe the story gets better, but it seemed like an awkward, poorly written Twilight plot. I really don't understand how this was able to get published. . .

Great story
Revisado: 05-28-24
Loved the story and the ending. Before vacation, I told my husband I was looking for a story that takes place in 19th century Britain, by the sea. I wanted it to have a ghost somewhere and a love story. I thought I would never find anything that hit all of those boxes because it was absurdly specific. Sea of Secrets hit every single one.

Historia
Karol Charles does not have time for ghosts. It’s Christmas Eve and she’s at the office. Sure, her kids thought she’d be making cookies with them back at home, but this is important. This is what it means to “have it all.” Then, a familiar cough from the adjacent room jolts her out of her work. It can’t be possible. Marley is dead. She has been for years.

So good
Revisado: 12-28-23
This is exactly what I was looking for this Christmas. Such a perfectly sweet story. And such a great reminder. It's easy to think that as a stay at home, homeschooling mom of 3, I wouldn't need this reminder. But it is so easy to get distracted with everything that I forget spending time with my family is the most important part of this life I get to lead. Thank you for this book and this reminder!

Historia
Effy Sayre has always believed in fairy tales. Haunted by visions of the Fairy King since childhood, she’s had no choice. Her tattered copy of Angharad—Emrys Myrddin’s epic about a mortal girl who falls in love with the Fairy King, then destroys him—is the only thing keeping her afloat. So when Myrddin’s family announces a contest to redesign the late author’s estate, Effy feels certain it’s her destiny. But musty, decrepit Hiraeth Manor is an impossible task, and its residents are far from welcoming.

I wanted to like it
Revisado: 11-05-23
I really wanted to like this story, but, for me, the author spent too much time trying to hit popular tropes that took me out of the actual story. For example: obligatory LGBT character ✔️, me too ✔️, strong female protagonist who takes on typical masculine strengths (masculine style bravery, rescuer, etc) instead of feminine strengths (compassion, empathy, intuition, attention to detail, etc) ✔️, women oppressed ✔️. It kind of felt like the author really wanted to write about those things and just threw in the stuff about is she crazy or is the fairy king real. All of that felt like an after thought and that was the story I really wanted to read.

Cadence and her sister possess the seeds of glory and ruin—or so their father always insisted. Cadence never understood what he meant until Airlie’s seed of power is activated, turning her into the most powerful mage in generations. Despite knowing it must mean her own dormant seed is much more malevolent, Cadence is swept away to the distant Mage’s Guild in her sister’s wake. She’s used to living in Airlie’s shadow, but she can’t see a place for herself in this new world. Nor can she believe in the apparent interest of the charming Zeke. No one has ever chosen her over her beautiful sister.

Beautiful
Revisado: 06-29-23
I'm becoming a huge Melanie Cellier fan! I can't express how much I loved this series. It was so refreshing to have characters that strived for real virtue and were able to recognize their shortcomings and fight against them (recognizing that their feelings of jealousy were just that and letting their love for the other person make them happy for them instead). I also really liked that the characters didn't do the annoying there's an easily explainable misunderstanding but instead of allowing you to explain yourself, I'm going to be unreasonable and not let you explain anything and just get really mad. I'm really looking forward to my daughters reading this. The sisterly love in the book was so beautiful and I hope they enjoy it as much as I did.

Great story, ok narration
Revisado: 05-30-23
It was a little hard to follow at first because the time bounces a bit. But once the story got going it was not an issue. The story was great, but the narrator was just ok. Overall, definitely worth the credit.
