Revisado: 05-05-25
Great sequel to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. So much like the first book, partly due to the same narrator, that I kept thinking it was the same characters. Kept my interest throughout, great narrator, great realistic storyline.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Predictable but still a good story
Revisado: 05-02-25
Very interesting story line. I’ve read an article about the “blue people” but this the first fictional story I’ve read regarding them. A bit predictable but still a great story that kept me engaged.

Historia
"Most people think of love as a feeling," says David Richo, "but love is not so much a feeling as a way of being present." In this audiobook, Richo offers a fresh perspective on love and relationships - one that focuses not on finding an ideal mate, but on becoming a more loving and realistic person. Drawing on the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, How to Be an Adult in Relationships explores five hallmarks of mindful loving and how they play a key role in our relationships throughout life.

Revisado: 03-18-25
Everyone hates to admit when you make mistakes, especially in relationships, but there’s a lot to keep learning about yourself, others & your relationships with them. This book gave me insight, alternative ways to interpret feelings, and advice on appropriate thoughts and behaviors. There’s a lot of relationship skills packed into this book!

Stay In the Light was very bit as good as The Watchers. Only problem is that it’s not a trilogy & it left me hanging! We need a 3rd book!

Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

The Watchers was so well written, it left a visual imprint on my brain. I felt like I was in the forest with the characters and so frightened of the “monsters” right along with them!

Not nearly as good as The Pecan Man
Revisado: 02-25-25
I found this story slow, predictable and boring. I enjoyed The Pecan Man when I listened to it a year ago but this sequel wasn’t really a story but an “addendum”.

Historia
At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated.

A powerful & heartbreaking gift of a story.
Revisado: 02-22-25
What would I do with my remaining time? Paul Kalanithi absolutely made the most of what little time he had left. He fought ferociously to live, to write his book when he had no strength and even when it took time away from his family. He decided to have a child because he wanted to feel that kind of love, and so his wife wouldn’t be left alone. He made the most of a short lived career that he spent half his life training for. A truly selfless man that left a wonderful legacy with his book giving us insight to what one ponders, cherishes and dignifies us when finding meaning to our lives.

Historia
Rising young comedian Moshe Kasher is lucky to be alive. He started using drugs when he was just 12. At that point, he had already been in psychoanlysis for 8 years. By the time he was 15, he had been in and out of several mental institutions, drifting from therapy to rehab to arrest to...you get the picture. But Kasher in the Rye is not an "eye opener" to the horrors of addiction. It's a hilarious memoir about the absurdity of it all.

Repetitive
Revisado: 01-19-25
Just a little repetitive & drawn out. I don’t doubt the authors recounting of his childhood but no one has that good of a memory of all the details of conversations, daily happenings, etc., especially when strung out on drugs. Very sad listening to such a wasted youth.
