Historia
Far more than a "business memoir", What Are the Odds? is a raw, authentic account by a man many thought would never rise above his serial, addiction-fueled failures. Mike's gripping narrative transports listeners from his small-town tavern with its colorful cast of "regulars" to Mexico and a drug deal gone awry. From Las Vegas casinos, where Mike won and lost fortunes as a professional gambler, to a jail-cell beatdown. From failed rehabs to his 20-year marriage, an ideal union decimated by addiction. And finally, to the redemption of the most shameful moment of his life.

Best Danged Audio Book EVER
Revisado: 07-27-21
If this book read in the authors own voice, listening to his emotions doesn't convince you of at least the possibility that God is real... I don't know what will. literally the best audio boom I've ever heard. And as a trucker die almost 2 decades I've heard a whole lot of them.

Interesting info. Lackluster Reading Performance
Revisado: 09-28-20
Great Book, very interesting info about soooo much more that just the Raven Rock facility. Staggeringly boring narration. As a trucker I found it literally dangerous to listen to late in my shift. Lulled me damned near to sleep behind the wheel a couple times, had to switch to music!

Historia
Gianni Russo was a handsome 25-year-old mobster with no acting experience when he walked onto the set of The Godfather and entered Hollywood history. He played Carlo Rizzi, and he didn't have to act - he knew the mob inside and out: from his childhood in Little Italy, where Mafia legend Frank Costello took him under his wing, to having to go on the lam after shooting and killing a member of the Colombian drug cartel in his Vegas club. Along the way, Russo befriended Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. Russo had passionate affairs with Marilyn Monroe and Liza Minelli....

Most riveting book I've listened to in a long time
Revisado: 06-26-19
This is the type of book that benefits immensely from the author reading it personally. While it's not necessarily written all that well in the classic sense... when it is read by the author in the way he wishes to present it... THAT makes all the difference.
I have no idea if all these stories are true... though I suspect that they are and then some. It's unimaginable that all these things could happen to and be accomplished by one man, to anyone who didn't live it I should think. These stories real of not will stick with you, especially when told by the man himself. Great Book!

But he was leading a double life. After taking his first Ecstasy pill at a rave in Manchester as a shy student, Shaun became intoxicated by the party lifestyle that would change his fortune. Years later, in the Arizona desert, Shaun became submerged in a criminal underworld, throwing parties for thousands of ravers and running an Ecstasy ring in competition with the Mafia mass murderer Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano.

The story is good, the performance SUCKS.
Revisado: 05-21-19
Perhaps it's because I was first exposed to Mr Atwood in a YouTube interview... so it's my opinion that this book must be read by a Brit. The wank who reads this is quite literally the worst audio book performer I've ever heard. I couldn't make it past the second chapter. Gonna try to get a refund actually.

Historia
Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity. While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants.

Revisado: 12-11-18
...if your not, why the F*** are you here? I'd direct you to YouTube to get yourself disfigure acquainted with his schtick, it ain't for everyone. But if you've got a twisted, even morbid sense of humor you'll love him and this audio. It's SOOOO much better than the actual book, with tons of asides and contextual stories behind the ones in the book. I found Stanhope on the Bob & Tom show at least 15 years ago... long before YouTube. I've been a fan since!

Historia
A former US naval intelligence worker, Milton William Cooper published his manifesto Behold a Pale Horse in 1991. Since then it has gone on to sell hundreds of thousands of copies, becoming the number-one best seller in the American prison system. According to Behold a Pale Horse, JFK was assassinated - because he was about to reveal that extraterrestrials were about to take over the earth - by his driver, an alien himself; AIDS is a government conspiracy; and much more.

Masterfull Performance
Revisado: 11-15-18
This book was well researched and written... the audio performance is one of the best I've listened to, ave as a trucker I've listened to hundreds.
it was a little bittersweet though.... like they say, "never meet your hero's" ... I came to recordings of Cooper and read BAPH 6 or so years after his death... I cut my conspiracy teeth on Alex Jones. but have since graduated beyond that. I still enjoy Paul Joseph Watson and David Knight in between.

Great info... Unbelievably Boring Performance.
Revisado: 10-19-18
I'm usually a fan of the author reading their own work, it tends to be much more interesting. It is normally much more emotive, because the author knows where the emphasis should be.
However in this case, his almost monotone reading performance will put you to sleep of you are at all tired.
If it weren't for the deep interest in the material, I wouldn't have been able to deal with it. I drive truck so I listen to most books... however it'd have been much better to have read the physical book in this case.

Best Audio Book I've EVER Listened To. Period.
Revisado: 10-18-18
I'm very happy that I LISTENED to this performance of the book rather than reading it.
I always enjoy a book better when performed by its author. I really prefer then that way.
But this one is bar none the best I've EVER listened to, and I'm a trucker whose listened to at least a thousand audio books over the years.
The "unprofessional" nature of it... the asides and authors notes etc were often hysterical. All of which I'd have missed of I'd just bought the book.
Having a VERY unconventional mother myself (certainly not to this extent) whose one of the few people in each of our lives who understand each other... I found a kinship with Doug and his mom.
Having been a fan for years... I got on a Stanhope jag here a few weeks ago... devouring everything I could find on YouTube, and in some interview I heard him talk about this book... had to get it! I was not disappointed. Looking forward to the next one.
