Historia
Daisy Bumgarten isn't thrilled to be trying to catch a duke's attention while dressed like a flowerpot caught in a swarm of butterflies. But, after all, when in Rome (or, in this case, London society)... Since her decidedly disastrous debut among New York's privileged set, the sassy Nevada spitfire's last chance to "marry well" lies across the pond, here in England. If she must restrain her free spirit, not to mention her rib cage, so be it. She knows she owes it to her three younger sisters to succeed. Now, under a countess's tutelage, Daisy appears the perfect duchess-in-training.

Not bad but
Revisado: 03-10-25
I can’t stand romance novels where one or both of the characters repeats a mistake over and over. In this case the heroine ruins her reputation so badly as a teen that she changes her entire future to make amends for it only to get to the almost point of success only to repeat it. What grown adult would knowingly take a note left by an unseen person and believe nothing nefarious is involved. Waiting just until daylight would have been the smart decision not go out to an inn in the middle of the night and expect her reputation remain intact. Much easier ways to get from one place to the next in a book.

Not bad but
Revisado: 02-22-25
Would have been way better without the continued repetition of his struggle through addiction. One or two chapters devoted to what where when and why and an end mention of recovery would have done it. As it is the book is dominated by it leaving the romance and other interesting details ebbing in the background. Because the book is written well minus that I can only say who ever edited this book didn’t do their job or they did and the author didn’t listen to the editor.

Comment
Revisado: 02-07-25
Just started but wanted to comment on how the hero fashions his life after his father. His take away is ok for his mom but the take away from the dad is not to ever fall in love. When the take away should have been don’t ever manipulate a women into marriage. Interesting that the author dismisses that completely and the editor doesn’t pick it up.

Historia
Accomplished spy Aden St. George prefers to stay away from the frivolous ton, especially after the way his mother was used by the Prince Regent. But his latest mission compels him to guard unconventional, vibrant Lady Vivien Shaw. Rescuing her from kidnappers was easy. Resisting her beauty is not. Duty demands he keep an eye on her, and his lips soon follow. For someone who views entanglements as a weakness, this is pure, delicious folly. Tedium
Revisado: 02-02-25
This could have been a half decent book with a competent editor if there even was one. The same repetitive kidnapping scene need only to have been done once not multiple times. The heroine was made to appear smart but The only smart or intelligent thing about her seems to be her adeptness at gambling. Minus that the amount of decisions she makes that places herself back in danger is mind blowing. Not an ounce of consequential thinking in any decision she makes, it’s embarrassing as a female to listen to it.

Historia
Miss Fiona Hartley’s huge dowry should have ensured that finding a husband would be quick. True, she’s a tad older than the average debutante and spends too much time sketching brutally honest character portraits. She desperately needs a husband, so she can access her dowry, lest the man blackmailing her reveals a secret that would ruin her family. So desperate in fact, that she’s willing to do the unthinkable - propose marriage to the most surly, irritable gentleman in town.

To long
Revisado: 01-04-25
Way to long the thing that bothers me the most is the heroine is being blackmailed yet she forgets a journal and her drawings both of which have salacious content for the era. Doesn’t make sense when the character itself isn’t stupid

Id grade it an overall C
Revisado: 12-03-24
If it’s included with audiobooks and you’re not paying separately not a complete waste. The heroine is weak. If I were divorced by a man who accused me of adultery that never happened while believing someone else over his own me my character being unblemished up to that point. I’d not so easily fall back into this man’s arms. I certainly wouldn’t do it before he apologized for being wrong when he finally understands he is. Then also doesn’t protect her from his mother when he knows at that point she lied. It would be a cold day in hell id sleep with him again. As for the narrator she’s getting better. Some day she’ll get there.

Im only half way, but the heroines immaturity and selfishness is cringe worthy. Don’t know if I can make it to the end. Hmmm I’ll fast forward.
