Barb Goss did an outstanding job writing the first book in this series and J. Scott Bennett did a great job narrating.
The storyline for this first in a series was amazing, gave me some good laughs and it helped set the tone for the books that follow.
When you put a matchmaker with lots of paperwork on matched couples, a flighty cat and a granddaughter left to try and put things back in the proper order after her grandmother becomes ill, you end up with organized chaos.
Dr. Connor V. of Hays City has applied to the matchmaker for a future bride he fills in all of his likes, dislikes, expectations etc. of hat he is looking for in a wife.
Elsie C. of Gobblers Knob also applies to the same matchmaker for a husband filling in the same particulars. Elsie arrives in Hays City, they are married and the most interesting marriage has begun.
Soon both Connor and Elsie realize they have many differences, that they really aren’t a great match for each other. But, with a lot of patience and getting to know each other better only time will tell if they are a perfect match.

Kimberly Grist did an outstanding job on Maggie’s story and the narrative by Scott Bennett adds to the story. Maggie Montgomery may be small in stature but she has a heart the size of Texas.
Maggie loves helping in her father’s blacksmith shop creating the most intricate designs to be crafted into amazing pieces of metalwork.
At a young age Maggie learned to cook and clean along side her mother. This came in handy when she is hired to help care for the wife of the local doctor. The doctors son BJ comes home after learning his mother is not well. He is totally taken aback by the thought of Maggie looking after her mother. They don’t see eye to eye at first but as time goes by BJ has a shift in his thinking and realizes he wants to get to know Maggie.

When I finished listening to book 1, Best Friends in The Show Me State, the Epilogue hinted a bit about the story line for Book 2. Never in my life would I have figured the story line would unfold into such a heartwarming story of Redemption, Forgiveness and love.
Ivory has avoided people pretty well most of her life, her mom was a “lady of the night” her dad was thought to be “the town drunk.” Ivory felt people looked down on her and saw her as being just like her mother.
Ivory fudged a bit with her age on her resumes and was working at an early age, she saved her money and bought a run down farm. “A place to call home.”
Chandler was a famous actor who loved being in the spotlight. Born and raised on a farm, he wanted nothing of it, he left and pursued his career.
To raise money for the tornado victims, the church is holding an auction. Chandler is asked to come home and be part of the auction. He is asked to donate 1 month of his time to whoever buys him.
The day of the auction rolls around and Ivory comes to town to check things out. Her curiosity got the better of her, she wanted to watch Chandler being sold. Ivory hadn’t seen Chandler in years but the hurt he caused her years ago still lingers in her heart and mind.Someone comes up behind her, tells her to not turn around and hands her $5,000.00 to bid on Chandler, she buys him for $4,900.00.
That one month felt so much longer, but in a good way. Both Ivory and Chandler had wounds to heal, Ivory needed to heal from her mothers past and Chandlers hurt, Chandler was divorced and had a daughter he didn’t see much due to movie scheduling.

The rest of the story unfolds in such a beautiful way, a story of forgiveness, redemption and love. When you combine those 3 and add in a cute little daughter, the story vamps to a whole new level.

I could say more but I will leave you with this: I guarantee you will fall in love with this story and the characters as much as I have.
Jessie Gussman, thank you for gifting this Audible to me, you are such a talented author and you truly use the gift God gave you. Jay Dyess, you did an amazing job with your narration and your singing was once again beautiful. Your auctioneering skills are great, I grew up in a family of auctioneers, I’d sit and listen to you auction all night.

Marlowe and Clark have been best friends all their lives, they grew up living next door to each other. Clark is a divorced single dad to Huck and Marlowe is raising her niece Kylie who she adopted after her mom, sister and her sisters husband died in an accident. When bad weather hits and there is potential for a tornado Clark, Huck, Marlowe and Kylie seek shelter for the night in Clark’s cellar. Something changes between them that night, something they both think they are imagining. Can they risk their friendship on a relationship? With faith, friendship and hard work they find what God has in store for them.

Thank you Jessie Gussman for giving me the opportunity to listen and review this amazing story, I can’t wait for the next one, I need to find out what interesting things you have in store for Chandler.
Jay Dyess, you did an outstanding job narrating Jessie’s story. I fell in love with your voice instantly. When you were singing the old hymn in the cellar I could feel the calmness it was providing.

Seraphina (Sara) Adams climbs a tall evergreen tree to cut a section from the top for a Christmas Tree. Her mom and sisters are helping from the ground. As the section falls, so does Sara, right into the snow. Her mother’s frantic screaming attracts the attention of the neighbors son Rafe Dixon. Rafe races to help Sara, but her mom isn’t too impressed, especially when the ownership of the tree is brought up. The Adams and Dixon families have not been too friendly towards each other for years but no one really knows why. Now, the story begins, I won’t say too much more, I don’t want to spoil it.
I highly recommend you listen to this story, it is sure to get you into the Spirit of Giving no matter what month of the year it is.
