This was just not for me
Revisado: 09-05-20
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
There wasn’t a single thing I liked about this book, which was incredibly disappointing because the summary sounds like something I’d enjoy. I was bored. I didn’t care about the characters. I didn’t care about the plot. There wasn’t anything that drew me in and held my interest.
I thought there would be a bunch of action but the first three hours could have easily been cut and I wouldn’t have known the difference. It takes forever for them to even leave the laboratories and then instead of superheroes fighting bad guys like I expected, I got them running around with only the vaguest of purposes.
Also, I didn’t like this narrator at all. She constantly sounded like she was on the verge of tears and even when there was action she didn’t make it sound intense, she just sounded even closer to tears than before.
If there had been less of the laboratories at the beginning and less jumping back and forth between present and past, I might have liked it a bit more. As it is, I got 60% of the way through and I just can’t make myself finish. DNF.

A Fantastic New Installment!
Revisado: 11-12-15
What made the experience of listening to Tower of Thorns the most enjoyable?
I love that they use multiple narrators for this series and the fantastic job they do melding together so that the listener isn't jolted by the change.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tower of Thorns?
The climax of the story threw me for a loop with the twist Marillier threw in. I loved it.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Nick Sullivan's Grimm is my favorite voice for this series. He makes Grimm sound exactly as I would imagine if I were reading the book rather than listening to it.
Any additional comments?
This was even better than 'Dreamer's Pool'. I loved the building of the relationship between Blackthorn and Grimm and this adventure put me in mind of a twisted version of the Rapunzel tale, with a curse and some fae involvement. Highly enjoyable and I will be waiting anxiously for book 3!

A Great Beginning to an Intriguing Series
Revisado: 02-21-15
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dreamer's Pool?
I loved the interactions between Grimm and Thorn. With as prickly as Thorn is and as loyal as Grimm is, the chemistry between the two (not necessarily romantic) was simply wonderful. The part I loved most was when they rescued the village girl from the man who had killed her father.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It definitely left me wishing the second one was already available.
Any additional comments?
Though the story is a bit slow for the first half, as long as you aren't looking for something that immediately throws you into the action and are more prepared to let the story and the characters build up, you will not be disappointed. This story is intriguing and mysterious and is constantly presenting a new mystery as soon as the last one was solved. Just brilliant.

Best Read I've Had in a Long Time!
Revisado: 02-04-15
What made the experience of listening to Etiquette & Espionage the most enjoyable?
The pace is great, the characters are fun and realistic, and the story kept me intrigued the whole way through.
Which scene was your favorite?
I love them all but the one with the cheese pie was one of the best.
Any additional comments?
One of the best reads I've had in a very long time. I absolutely love this book. Its a fantastic beginning to an amazing series and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, ingenious story to get lost in.

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

Great Premise but the Story Fell Flat
Revisado: 02-04-15
What disappointed you about I Am Number Four?
1. There was no character development. 2. The main character falls in love with a Mary Sue. 3. After the main character "falls in love" (for reasons that aren't very clear to me on top of there being no connection that I could feel between the two characters) he then proceeds to do a series of stupid things, such as lying to his guardian and not leaving town like he should have to keep everyone safe, and I was left banging my head on my desk at the idiocy of it all.
That is the tip of the ice berg.
Has I Am Number Four turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not at all, but I certainly will not be reading the rest of this series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
As has been said, he is overly dramatic and the voice weren't good for anyone except the main character and his guardian.
What character would you cut from I Am Number Four?
The love interest.
Any additional comments?
Not a good book. It very much could have been and I wanted it to be, but it was a pathetic disappointment.
