The story is compelling but the language is overdone. Understandably a story that has survived the sages.

The story has some interesting twists but is often unconvincing. The exciting climax is followed by a mundane resolution of the mystery. Several promising characters are left dangling until the wrap up at the end.

Likable characters particularly writer Grace and cop Ed and an unusual crime but the story runs a predictable course ending the only way it could

Interesting premise - a woman with serial amnesia (every time she falls asleep her memory resets to the afternoon of a traumatic event two years earlier) must clear herself of murder and find the real killer. No spoilers but dive into this one at your own risk.

Overall the premise is intriguing: privileged a**holes are confronted with the consequences of their callous behavior. Will - good looking, charming, amoral - is the center of it all. But everyone else has something to answer for - well almost everyone else.
I had some difficulty with the way the narration was shared among the actors. Each chapter is voiced by one actor so a character could be voiced by two different actors in two adjacent chapters. I prefer a character always being voiced by the same actor.
The story jumps around in time. Common technique. But I didn’t think it was handled well in this case.
Still the story is engrossing and well worth the time.

This is the second Buck Schott mystery for me. I like his punk and the intricacy of the crime. But I found the extended moral lectures irritating

Violence, sex, booze and drugs mixed and shaken. Our justice system is a little crazy but the good guys (and girls) take on the bad guys and find a way to come out on top.
A thriller

The Bush Family developed it’s wealth in the 18th century and began making a name in national politics in early 19th century when George Herbert Walker Bush’s father got himself elected to Congress.
As Kelley tells it: wealth and connections allowed generations of ordinary men to exert extraordinary influence over our nation.
Oilmen GHW and GW shed the old man’s sense of ethics and morality in favor of matriarch Dorothy’s drive to win at any cost.
They foreshadow the rise of the extreme right and its hero Donald J Trump
The story is interesting and important but Kelley manages to turn it into an excruciating slog with an over abundance of detail
