Historia
What happens to a regular guy who dopes? Surprised to learn that pro athletes aren’t the only ones taking performance-enhancing substances, journalist Andrew Tilin goes in search of the average juicing Joe, hoping to find a few things out: Why would normal people take these substances? Where do folks get them? Does the stuff really work? But these controversial drugs often silence their users, and so his queries might have gone unanswered had Tilin not looked in the mirror and succumbed to curiosity....

I Really Wanted to Like This Book But.....
Revisado: 04-14-18
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. The story could have been interesting but there was more time spent talking about the author's life than the experience of being the "Doper Next Door". The writing was not very good and I felt my eyes rolling more than it should have.
What aspect of Eric Michael Summerer’s performance would you have changed?
The performance of the reading was fine.
Did The Doper Next Door inspire you to do anything?
There were some interesting information about the anti aging industry.
Any additional comments?
I felt a little misled by the title and summary of the book. This book should have been titled "To T or not to T".

Like being in the Peloto.

This book is really good. It gives the insight into what happens during a race with internal team dynamics and politics. I was captivated with the description of riding the tour from an insiders perspective. I could almost feel his pain. His life story is also very interesting with tales of growing up in Kenya to his journey to becoming a pro.

Historia
In this updated edition of the highly acclaimed Tour de France, Graeme Fife sets the 2012 race in the context of the event's remarkable history, stretching back to July 1903. Combining meticulous research with a pacy narrative style, he penetrates the mystique of the race and paints a colourful picture of the men whose exploits have given the Tour an enduring universal appeal. Moreover, the book now celebrates a truly historic event: The 99th edition of the race was won, for the first time, by a Briton.

Good Book with some iritations
Revisado: 01-21-17
Where does Tour de France rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Tour de France is only my second audio book and I did enjoy it. I'm an avid cyclist and a fan of the Tour so the subject matter was very enjoyable.
What did you like best about this story?
I started watching the Tour in 2014 and became an instant fan. I really liked getting the history of the Tour and the important players in the development of the race and how it was shaped. The best part of the book was the more current years 2010 - 2013 as it filled a lot of the gaps.
Which scene was your favorite?
The 2012 Tour and the interaction with Wiggins and Froome was very fascinating
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself wanting to grab my bike and start riding as I was listening to this book. It gave me the same feeling and reaction as when I watch the Tour on TV,
Any additional comments?
There are 2 things about this book that bothered me, The first was the story jumps around a lot especially in the first half of the book. I couldn't tell half the time which year the rider being referenced was from or when certain events occurred because he would just pick riders out of time and start talking about them. The other was the pronunciations. I saw other reviewers mention this, but didn't affect me until the narrator started on the more current Tour stories. I could not get over the Porter (Porte). Was like nails on chalkboard.
