Historia
In this “rich, complex family saga” (USA Today) full of long-buried family secrets, Marilyn Connolly and David Sorenson fall in love in the 1970s, blithely ignorant of all that awaits them. By 2016, they have four radically different daughters, each in a state of unrest.

Yawn.
Revisado: 03-09-25
This is one of the most boring books I have ever read. It's about two parents with four daughters in an upper middle class Chicago setting. Their lives are too perfect to be interesting and the plot was flat. It felt like forever trying to get through it.

Who Is The Target Reader for this Book?
Revisado: 04-29-23
I am only on Chapter 6 of this book and struggling to get through it with much difficulty. The book is just childish and reads like the target audience is aged 12 or something. So far it does little to demonstrate Ms. Lowe's highly remarkable climb to the top during America's Era of Apartheid. It reads more like a highly fictionalized narrative of the author's own projection of how a child thought during "old times." I personally believe that Ann Lowe's thought process was far more sophisticated in her day and before her time. The book makes her look more naive than skilled and talented. I don't think this is how it went down at all and I think she deserves a lot more credit than is revealed so far. I'll update this review if my opinion changes.

Historia
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

and, likely, numerous other American presidents. They are ALL self absorbed, narcissistic, entitled and use their levers of power to their own benefit. They are ALL institutionalized and shielded from consequences by the institution itself. While cleverly written, this book could be more appropriately entitled, "American Presidents", a chapter could be dedicated to each one and the overarching analysis Ms. Trump offers up would still apply.

Historia
Why does communication between couples remain the number one marriage issue? "Because," says Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, "most spouses don’t know that they speak two different languages. They are sending each other messages in 'code,' but they won’t crack that code until they see that she listens to hear the language of love and he listens to hear the language of respect."

The Better Title Would Be WHAT MEN WANT!
Revisado: 10-12-18
This book would best be titled 'What Men Want' as the author guides women to respect their husbands while merely accepting love from their husbands. I believe respect is a higher order need than love and if men have higher order needs, truly evolved women genuinely have higher order needs as well. Don't let a man tell you what you want! Men are needy, but they will not admit that. Couching their neediness as respect is a sure ego booster that he NEEDS. Men call women needy, but don't acknowledge that they are needy themselves. Nevertheless, learning a man's needs can only place a woman in a winning position. So it's worth the buy in. But I truly ignore the perceived expertise the author believes he has about women. I have higher order needs that this guy cannot even begin to comprehend! Thank God, however, that I can facilitate that comprehension with my own husband. He is the only man that matters here. I would not let him read this book, however, as it would take his understanding of me 3 centuries back. He embarked on this "revelation" after counseling a multitude of forlorn women and that is what shapes his bias about womens' needs. He should have interviewed women in joyful marriages too!

Singlehandedly the WORST book I've ever read!
Revisado: 01-05-17
Thus is singlehandedly the WORST book I have ever read in my 43 years on Earth. this book is so bad that I demanded a refund from audible for having suffered through it. I kept wondering when the book would actually start. The book makes claims about forthcoming content that never comes. And the guidance is superficial. The "secrets" are Calorie Restriction, exercise, Sleep and self control and confidence. That's it. Okay, well, I did learn not to exercise more than 2 hours a day to prohibit adrenal burnout and weight gain. For that, I give the book 1 star. Otherwise, this book is utter garbage.
