Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

There are flaws in the narrative and the characters delivery, but damn if they didn't make me care by the end.

Pleasantly Surprised!
Revisado: 02-28-25
I honestly did not expect to enjoy this book the way I did. Pacing is quick but action and dialogue are well written. Narrator killed it once again, great performance, particularly since the accents of the people of Thedas are important devices to reflect their cultures.

Historia
There is a world. One of endless night, surrounded by an even deeper darkness. Filled with nightmares come to life, twisted shapes that slink to windows and ease open doors, sliding across floors to look down on helpless faces. There is another world. A bright world, so bright it burns. Filled with stacked stones that call forth miracles, raised by callused hands that tremble in their work, drained with each stone lifted, settled, lifted again.

A perfectly imperfect format into romance
Revisado: 10-12-24
Sanderson's biggest talent has always been his world building, and the worlds he created for this story really built themselves from 2 characters. Both Yumi and Painter elevate the world by giving us two working peoples perspectives. This adds a sense of cohesion that really fills in the blanks and elevates the story.

Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

Character Creation at its finest
Revisado: 08-05-24
I absolutely loved this story. Each POV was a rich dive into the motivations of different social classes and cultures. While Not as nuanced or varied as the storm light Archit's still a masterpiece in and out itself.

Hearing both actors from the Dub was a gift I didn't expect to enjoy. They managed to bring that same connection the characters had in the show to the page.

A Colorful and Weighty Retelling of a Legend
Revisado: 05-26-24
As a new and enthusiastic student of Japanese history and lore, delving into the obvious fiction and embellishment of this story is a welcome release. In such a thick text there are certainly a few areas where it drags and given the original text was written over the course of years, there is a progression style that makes casually listening difficult.
This story requires commitment and invokes introspection. While certain parts could have been better executed narratively, this is still a great work that has earned a place in my printed library.

Historia
The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine-that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart.

I first found spice and wolf on the Funimation channel when I was in middle school. Funding the light novels in English took time, but it essentially worth the wait. The pleasure of hearing Lawrence and Holos journey in such a wonderful and caring tone is a joy.

Real potential bogged down by excessive concepts
Revisado: 09-30-23
While a fun story on its own, the gutter prayer falls a little short in terms of characterization, immersion, and pacing. While the exposition is well managed by informed characters the way those characters are written makes them seem a bit flat. Like they only exist for that exposition, Ala an NPC in a video game who shows up later.
The story is engaging but not truly gripping, and could have been better if it had focused on its stronger magic systems rather than trying to overload us. Quality over Quantity.
Will definitely read the next one to see how it improves.

Historia
Epictetus, a Greek stoic and freed slave, ran a thriving philosophy school in Nicropolis in the early second century AD. His animated discussions were celebrated for their rhetorical wizardry and were written down by Arrian, his most famous pupil. Together with the Enchiridion, a manual of his main ideas, and the fragments collected here, The Discourses argue that happiness lies in learning to perceive exactly what is in our power to change and what is not, and in embracing our fate to live in harmony with god and nature.

DISCLAIMER This is great listening but not easy listening.
if you're going to listen to this, make sure you can focus on it. The structure doesn't lend itself well to reference since each lesson is independent of the next. The substance of those lessons is worth the listen, maybe two listens.
