Historia
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

This is not an audiobook
Revisado: 04-29-25
I don't exactly know how I stumbled into this, purchased or selected or whatever, it was a very long time ago that it got added to my list. However, I dutifully listened to the whole thing.
This is a public radio style audio documentary with Narrators/journalists and audio clips from the various people involved. It has music and is presented in an episodic format. There isn't really a story or a conclusion. It's more presented with facts and chronology.
I won't fault anyone for enjoying such things, I know I definitely don't. I didn't want to rate it 1 star because it was well crafted and well produced. However, it isn't a story, it isn't a novel, it doesn't have a "performance". I didn't like it and I don't think it was sufficiently categorized to indicate what exactly it was.

Decent fantasy heroic tale
Revisado: 04-08-25
I liked the protagonists quite a lot, but the antagonists seemed a little flat. The setting was interesting enough to make me want to continue to the next book and follow further adventures and exploration into the world.

Historia
More than 35 years ago, a young author surprised and enchanted audiences with his first novel - the story of Fritti Tailchaser, a courageous tom cat in a world of whiskery heroes and villains, of feline gods and strange, furless creatures called M'an.

Not your average cute animal tale
Revisado: 01-27-25
I liked it. The animals mostly were portrayed like their animal selves rather than like humans with furry bodies. There was certainly some anthropomorphic bits, but lots less than others I’ve read. It really made it feel like a full story.

Not for me
Revisado: 09-08-24
This book reads like a steampunk pre-teen romance novel. Swooning heroine, maximum masculine love interest, insane bad guy driven mad because of a broken heart…. I’m sure it’s good if you’re looking for such a thing but I was hoping for more science fiction/fantasy novel? Perhaps with a Victorian flair? I was thinking a bit like John Carter of Mars? But alas it was not to be & not for me.
The reader was good enough and the non romance part of the story was entertaining enough that I finished it. However, I’ll not be reading any more like this.

Dull

The rambling story with no real plot to focus anything. It’s a diary of someone’s life interspersed with some Mythology of Madagascar. Frankly, the mythology was the most interesting bits.

Historia
A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood. The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them. James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 12-28-23
I missed the alien stuff in this story. The human themes were all great, but for the last couple novels it’s seemed to be human struggles exclusively without even a hint of alien stuff. I’m hoping that changes for the next one!

Historia
Nine hundred light-years from home, Major Andrew Grayson and the crew of NACS Washington are marooned in a sunless system with limited water, reactor fuel, and food. The last hope for survival is to go where nothing human has gone before. After embarking on a scouting mission to the only moon with surface signs of life, Andrew and his Special Tactics Team make two startling discoveries. One is a dream: a form of protein and plant life that could save the starving humans in the rogue system. The second is a nightmare: this harvested rock is infested with Lankies.

I’m always eagerly looking forward to the next installment. The story advances conflict by conflict without getting stale or repetitive or predictable. The characters are all interesting and human and enjoyable.

Amazing production, above average story
Revisado: 02-15-19
The ensemble narration cast was simply amazing, but the story really took far too long to develop. I was very bored with the story until the very end when suddenly it all coalesced into a cohesive plot. I’m excited for the continuation of the story now, but it was painful to get there.
The narration really got me through the drudgery, I know I’d never have made it through the print edition.
