Historia
Edgar Award winner Jonathan Kellerman once more explores the corruption of California's golden coast and produces a novel of complex characterizations and nonstop suspense. By the time psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware reached the school the damage was done: A sniper had opened fire on a crowded playground, but was gunned down before any children were hurt. While the TV news crews feasted on the scene and Alex began his therapy sessions with the traumatized children, he couldn't escape the image of a slight teenager clutching an oversized rifle.

meandering story
Revisado: 01-25-24
Too many characters too much content dealing with extraneous subjects. Author brought the holocaust history to the forefront and while it played a part in the story it repeated references to the German cruelty too often.
I was pleased to come to the end as to me it was a chore not a pleasantry

Historia
Autumn 1944. World War II is nearly over in Europe but is escalating in the Pacific, where American soldiers face an opponent who will go to any length to avoid defeat. The Japanese army follows the samurai code of Bushido, stipulating that surrender is a form of dishonor. Killing the Rising Sun takes listeners to the bloody tropical-island battlefields of Peleliu and Iwo Jima and to the embattled Philippines, where General Douglas MacArthur has made a triumphant return and is plotting a full-scale invasion of Japan.

Having lived through the war it brought back many memories and described the hardships the Jajanese inflicted on the soldiers and civilians in a graffic way. One of the best books I have read.

Did not read past first chapter
Revisado: 02-22-17
What would have made Duma Key better?
I did not read the book as it was so bad and vulgar that I gave up during the first chapter. The story may have been good but the vulgarity was so bad I refused to continue.
What could Stephen King have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Leave out the fowl language and present the story
How could the performance have been better?
Nothing in the performance would help this book
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No
Any additional comments?
I am send it back

Historia
From the author of The Ghost Ships of Archangel, one of the last unheralded heroic stories of World War II: The U-boat assault off the American coast against the men of the US Merchant Marine who were supplying the European war, and one community’s monumental contribution to that effort. Mathews County, Virginia, is a remote outpost on the Chesapeake Bay with little to offer except unspoiled scenery - but it sent an unusually large concentration of sea captains to fight in World War II.

Lesson in history of the Ohio Valley
Revisado: 05-30-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the books as they tell the story of the place in West Virginia wher I grew up. My grandparents often spoke of the Zanes and Girty's. Some of my relatives were there at the time so a personal interest and I enjoyed the book. I agree the narrator was not the best.
What did you like best about this story?
Home town experience.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
Could you see Betty Zane Trilogy: Classic Western Library, Book 5 being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes but cannot recommend actors
