Historia
Ensign Carol Hansen is six months out of Fleet University, and six months out of a toxic relationship that made no sense to anyone but her. Serving aboard Liberty is everything she had aspired to. But that sweet time comes to an abrupt, violent end when Liberty is destroyed in an unexpected attack. Carol is lucky enough to be "ashore" in the alien city below, and barely survives the death raining down from space.

Pleasantly Suprised
Revisado: 06-22-24
Thurley enjoyed this book. I thought the primes of early FTL flight and having only meet several aliens before meeting an unknown hostile was a good beginning. Establishing how bad the hostile aliens are established the good guy - bad guy foundation without any communication between the antagonist.
The weeding out of an overabundance of characters was expected and I thought was done well. I enjoyed the over all character build of the main cast members.
I found the use of delayed communication a unique way to show that Headquarters has to let their captains command and captains need to send information clearly and quickly to let smart people solve problems. Also that war at distance is stressful, confusing, frustrating and emotional for all involved.
For me what I enjoyed most was the authors ability to tell a compelling store that kept me interested to the end and I will read the next book in the series.

The war between Almacia and the Empire of Kolakolvia is in its hundredth year. Casualties grow on both sides as the conflict leaves no corner of the world untouched. Illarion Glaskov’s quiet life on the fringes of the empire is thrown into chaos when an impossible tragedy strikes his village. Really enjoyed this story. The characters are well developed and did not detract from the story. Enjoyed the narration as it met my expectations and added to the overall positive feel of this story.
