This is a drawn out story about what a pathetic slut was thinking about when she decides to cheat on her husband. Book is devoid of any redeeming value.

Cleaton often provides a rich cultural/historical context to her fiction. This novel was more shear fun reading even though it was rooted in a historical tragedy.

Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Thorough effort by Isaacson but given the Musk pace of innovation, a sequel should already be in the works
Revisado: 03-16-24
After reading the book I began to wonder if Musk is actually a Martian Extraterrestrial, who is simply pleading: “ET go home?”
As a septuagenarian and a grandfather of 21 grandchildren, who has seen my share of remarkable men make amazing human advances, Musk ranks at the top of the list. He is capable of conquering his latest challenge of corralling AI and rationalizing its subjugation to humanity.
I, for one, am betting on the Speciast, even if he’s a Martian-Speciast.
My only hope is that he finds a way to use AI to slow the
aging process. Life is much too enjoyable to be so short in duration.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Read it don’t listen to it.
Revisado: 02-09-24
It’s understandable that some people found this book interesting or even fascinating, but I didn’t like it personally. It was overly moralistic and the plot was weak.
Unless you are black or Jewish, you may find that the book is a burdensome listen. While I am always open to new ideas and approaches, I think that this book is easier to appreciate if you read it instead of listening to it.

Historia
Today Grover Cleveland is mainly remembered as the only president to be elected to two non-consecutive terms. But in his day, Cleveland was a renowned reformer, an enemy of political machines who joined forces with Theodore Roosevelt to fight powerful party bosses, a moralist who vetoed bills he considered blatant raids on the Treasury, a vigorous defender of the Monroe Doctrine who resisted American imperialism.

Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig's beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old's imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

If it weren’t for Streep’s narration, I would have abandoned this book about a third of the way through. Even w the reknowned actress reading her part, the plot seems trivial, inconsequential and I’ll have forgotten it by tomorrow.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

Remarkable story that needed to be told but definitely needed editing.

The narrator sounds like a kindergarten teacher reading to a class of babies .
The story itself is startling. Basically it is a story of corporate mass murder that took place nearly 100 years ago and dragged on over 50 years.
It has to make you wonder how people will view the Covid 19 debacle 100 years hence.

Historia
When James K. Polk was elected president in 1844, the United States was locked in a bitter diplomatic struggle with Britain over the rich lands of the Oregon Territory, which included what is now Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Texas, not yet part of the Union, was threatened by a more powerful Mexico. And the territories north and west of Texas---what would become California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and part of Colorado---belonged to Mexico.

A balanced view of the 11th President.
Revisado: 09-27-23
President Polk accomplished a lot more in his 4 years as President than the first four Presidents of the 21st Century will have accomplished in 24 years.
Merry provides his readers w a balanced view of those accomplishments without being overly judgmental of the methods employed to achieve these goals.
The most remarkable nuance of Polk’s presidency seems to be that by only allowing himself one term in office, he only had to fight against the politics of policies and didn’t have to worry about the politics of reelection.
