Too dark
Revisado: 01-24-25
I like Dean Koontz....but I could not finish this book. Some of his are just too dark. This story disturbed me from the beginning so I stopped listening. Maybe because I am in my old age, but this one was just too evil for me.

Historia
It starts with the dogs. They won’t stop barking. And then the earth shrugs - 8.9 on the Richter scale. It’s the world’s biggest earthquake since Lisbon in 1755, and it doesn’t hit California or Japan or Mexico, but New Madrid, Missouri, a sleepy town on the Mississippi River. Seismologists had predicted the scope of the disaster - but no one listened. For hundreds of miles around, dams burst, engulfing entire counties in tidal waves of mud and debris. Within minutes, there is nothing but chaos and ruin from St. Louis to Vicksburg, from Kansas City to Louisville.

Great book.......rivetting
Revisado: 01-24-25
This book is well written. It is long but it is so amazingly written and the story covers what could really happen in a huge disaster in our country. It tells the tale in an epic fashion and such a way that you are swept up in it. Much better than a book I waited months for by a very well known author!!! MUCH BETTER!!!! I was so impressed with this. You won't be disappointed!!!

Revisado: 01-24-25
This story is VERY good to listen to. It is not an easy listen......it is so important to know what has happened to women over the world in war torn regions. Our sisters in this world - of every color and religion - need our support. This is a book to read and learn from.

Women supporting each other
Revisado: 01-24-25
This book is a really good story. It is of three very different women each in very different and difficult circumstances. They are able to work together in hard ways. It is a very good book and worth the read. You will be richer for having read it.

Amelia Peabody at her finest!!!
Revisado: 01-24-25
This is the great first edition of Amelia Peabody!!! Having listened to all of these books before they are as good on a second trip around!! The narration of Barbara Rosenblat is wonderful. The story by Elizabeth Peters of her Amelia Peabody is superb! What a character. All the characters are wonderful, in fact. Egypt, pyramids, digs, mummys, haunts, all combine to create a fantastic, fun, atmosphere of escapism from daily life!! The plots are really inventive and twisty and the end is not easy to figure out. Have and adventure with Amelia and her Emerson!!

Dean Koontz at his best
Revisado: 01-24-25
Dean Koontz wrote this long ago. His style of intrigue was well developed and his use of language to draw us in was inviting. His use of the Lord's name in vain was, however, very immature. Unneeded and offensive in the amount of times just as the use of some words are now in writing by some authors make the listening of this book very difficult. The story is great and keeps one on the edge of one's seat at various intervals. Then the things switch pace. Then the gripping of fingers again! If one could just edit out the flagrant, unnecessary blasphemy......

With her new husband George busy on a special mission for the British Museum, Frances has taken on an assignment of her own. The dowager Viscountess Wingate needs someone to sponsor her niece, Kate, for presentation to Queen Victoria. Frances—who understands society’s quirks and constraints as only an outsider can—is the perfect candidate. Kate is charming and intelligent, though perhaps not quite as sheltered as she might first appear. More worrying to Frances is the viscountess’s sudden deterioration.
