Meh
Revisado: 09-07-18
Predictable. Anti-climactic. Tied up in a neat little boring bow.
Narration is excellent but the story itself is somewhat akin to a Lifetime drama. I would never compare this to Girl on a Train, Gone Girl, etc.
Overall an ‘easy’ listen but really forgettable and somewhat disappointing overall.

Don't bother, slow, dramatic, and depressing.
Revisado: 08-20-16
This was quite possibly one of the worst audio books I've picked up yet. It ends up being a long drawn out monologue about a woman's depressing relationship history, filled with banalities and a series of unlikeable and annoying characters. The narrator doesn't do much to reduce the irritation of just wishing the author would, 'get on with it'. I had guessed the ending at the very beginning, although you have to wait until 9 hours into the book for possible interesting plot twists; which end up being ridiculously disappointing. Please trust me when I tell you to skip it!

Pleasantly Surprised
Revisado: 11-25-13
I'm not a big mystery-whodunit reader, so I only picked this up based on reviews and I wasn't disappointed. I wish it were a series, because now that it's over I can't stop thinking about the characters and I'm ready for the next adventure! The details, character development and pacing were all perfect and I found myself looking forward to the next car ride or run so that I could continue listening.

Once again, Diana Rowland does not disappoint. This book is tons of fun and I was hooked from the very beginning. I'm hoping that Angel Crawford comes back for more White Trash Zombie drama, the characters are so likeable and I'm always a little bummed out when the books end.

This book grabbed me from the very beginning and held me until the end. I found myself listening in the car, the gym, and any free time in between. I'm not even a big zombie fan and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The narrator was perfect and the zombie story was a fascinating original twist...definitely sad when it ended!

Huge Disappointment
Revisado: 11-11-12
I've listened to several of Tami Hoag's most recent books and they were great thrillers with a tiny bit of romance interspersed throughout. This book on the other hand, was a horrendously cheesy romance with a flimsy "thriller" plot. I almost didn't make it through. I should have paid better attention to reviews that said that it was a romance, but the overwhelming ratings were positive, so I thought I'd give it a shot. If you're expecting a thriller, don't waste your credit.
Also, the narrator's performance of Elizabeth was twangy and grating - for a heroine that was supposed to be an attractive woman with a voice of "sex and smoke" - she was anything but that...

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Revisado: 10-08-12
What did you like best about Divergent? What did you like least?
I thought the narration was excellent in this book. I liked the premise of the novel, but the actual execution was too juvenile and unbelievable for my tastes.
Would you recommend Divergent to your friends? Why or why not?
No - I think this book wouldn't be enjoyed by someone in my age range.
Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. Her narration was excellent.
Do you think Divergent needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, it's left quite open ended.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Revisado: 09-03-12
What did you love best about Gone Girl?
This is one of the best books I've listened to since becoming an Audible member. The switch in narration between Amy and Nick kept you guessing and made you swing between loving and hating the characters. The story line is unique and dark and I would think about the novel long after I had shut if off for the day. This book grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go!

No more Nora Roberts books for me
Revisado: 06-12-12
What would have made The Witness better?
This story was abysmal. The heroine in this book is so unrealistic, I couldn't understand why the writer made a supposedly exceptionally smart person so robotic and socially unaware. Additionally the 'romance' is juvenile and difficult to listen to and the 'tense' moments of the thriller are pretty boring and cookie cutter. All around fail. I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm honestly so bored and disgusted that I might give up.
Would you be willing to try another one of Julia Whelan???s performances?
If she's not reading a southern or male accent, possibly. It was an alright performance, I think the book itself made me dislike her more than her actual performance.

Beautiful writing, poor story.
Revisado: 06-22-11
There is no question, Ann Patchett's ability with the written word is certainly one to admire. This is the first book of her's that I have listened to or read and I picked it up on the recommendations of the other reviewers. However, all that being said, I was sorely disappointed by this book. These are the nicest terrorists I've ever heard of, the characters are unbelievable and over-dramatic, and the ending is abrupt and lame. It almost seemed like Ann got tired of writing and needed an easy out.
In my opinion, what started out with such promise simply fell flat. I thought Ann wrote beautiful descriptions and I enjoyed her style of writing, but this story was so unbelievable that I will probably never venture back to this author. Last note, the narrator's accents tried my patience here and there, but not enough to ruin the experience, especially considering the myriad of accents she had to cover (French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian).
