I loved this book! This was super fun, a rollicking adventure and characters that revealed themselves over the course of an epic day.

The presentation of this book as a full cast audio was like an old school radio play, and this was really evocative of the time and place and the action, with added sound effects and voices.

But for me the real highlight was the genuine chemistry of the two main actors. There were times this felt like a real conversation between two people, as if it were unscripted and the laughter and non verbal responses super natural. Kudos to all involved.

A fun little confection

Joyful!

I really enjoyed this little nugget of joy, celebrating Neil’s home country. I have only been to Canada a couple of times for work, but am planning a personal trip and now am even more excited to visit. A nice insight into the Canadian psyche, plus a list of Canadian foods to try, and interesting things about Canadian communities to look out for.

Fascinating and thoughtful

This novel, set during and after World War One, is a touching and charming reminder of the peril and perverse folly of posturing politicians at a time of increasing world tension.
Beautifully read, this novel has moments of tension, intrigue and pathos without being overwrought. Nicely done.

Great fun, well written

Great escapist novellas, well performed and quality writing. Captured the feel of place in a charming way. The story Fireweed was my favourite, the pacing was well delivered and I enjoyed the character development, surprising in such a short format. Nicely done.

A bit of nostalgic fun

It's been a long time since I was a college student but I enjoyed this straightforward tale of first love and self discovery. Not too angsty or taxing, and a good break from my finance textbook.

Good fun, the narrator spoke a little fast for me but not intolerably so. The different characters were easily distinguishable in the narrator's performance. Enjoyed the lively characters, snappy dialogue and small town setting.

Enjoying the wallflowers

This is the second wallflower book I've listened to ( the first was Evie's book). I found this book really engaging, I liked the character of Annabel and enjoyed the growing tension between her and Simon.
I know a lot of readers struggled with Annabel's apparent snobbery but I think considering her in the context of her time and place, I found her willingness to go with significant social change quite inspiring and well drawn.

A touch of fun

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator adopts different voices for each character, bringing the book to life. Her Sookie voice puts me well south of the Mason Dixon line. She brings out the joy and cheeky humour of this short story collection.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud listening to this book in my car driving back from a stressful couple of days dealing with an issue off site.

Some of these stories slot nicely between the sookie novels, so best if you wait until at least book 8 lest you spoil the ending of the novels. Some of these stories have been rewritten into novels, and I enjoyed this insight into Charmaine Harris's writing process.
