Historia
In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Digging deeper into why we spend.
Revisado: 03-07-24
This was one of those books I finished in record time. I loved it! I followed Cait's blog years ago and loved the idea of a shopping ban. I completed a month long shopping ban before, but now feel motivated to try a year long ban to save money for a trip somewhere with my grown kids. I especially liked Cait's family's idea of placing a total limit on all gifts at Christmas and her advice for decluttering and minimizing. I think the best thing about this book, though, is that it clearly shows how emotions play a huge role in spending and hanging on to things we don't need.

I loved every thing about this book- Beth Kempton’s voice, how everything discussed could be applied to any day of the year, and the calming effect it had on me only two days before Christmas when I usually feel frazzled and exhausted.
