Historia
With what should have been the greatest heist of their career gone spectacularly sour, Locke and his trusted partner, Jean, have barely escaped with their lives. Or at least Jean has. But Locke is slowly succumbing to a deadly poison that no alchemist or physiker can cure. Yet just as the end is near, a mysterious Bondsmage offers Locke an opportunity that will either save him or finish him off once and for all.

Suspenseful and Satisfying
Revisado: 07-01-23
It followed some story lines I'd been wanting, plus hit so many brand new things. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering and worrying.
And as with the prior two, it leaves me wanting so many more answers, and so many new stories.

Historia
When Jancee Dunn hit her mid-forties, she was bombarded by seemingly random symptoms: rampant insomnia, spring-loaded nerves, weirdly dry mouth, and Rio Grande-level periods. After going to multiple doctors who ran test after fruitless test, she was surprised to finally discover the culprit—perimenopause. For more than two decades, Jancee had been reporting on mental and physical health. So if she was unprepared for this, what about all the women who don’t write about health for a living? Hot and Bothered is the book she wishes existed as she was scrambling for information.

An honest and educated discussion of menopause
Revisado: 06-04-23
She's forthright and blunt, in the best possible way. She doesn't tiptoe around any of it, from the reasons you might pee yourself to some of the physical damage your hot flashes are doing and ways to treat them. She discusses symptoms that I've had but that I didn't realize were perfectly normal and expected symptoms. She provides the results of testing of various products from herbal remedies to prescription drugs to CBD. This is a perfectly normal phase in life, and nearly half of the population will experience it firsthand. Here's all the information that any halfway competent education system (let alone healthcare system) should be teaching us all, but doesn't.

A fun and heartwarming memoir
Revisado: 05-16-23
A glimpse into the life of a culinary student in Paris. She doesn't dream of becoming a chef, so that particular stress isn't present. But she still wants to do well. Meanwhile, she speaks only a little French, and is far away from her friends, family, and boyfriend.
But the stories are fun and funny, mostly light, and all problems are eventually resolved.
The book also includes many recipes that I'm eager to try. They're in the included pdf, but the book is also bulked out a bit by having them all read aloud in the chapter to which they relate.

Absolutely loved it
Revisado: 05-06-23
I love this book. They're a bunch of British senior citizens and they're so realistic, it's wonderful. You feel like you already know them.
And the story line is really well done. It all fits together perfectly, without ever being predictable.
If you're American, it helps if you already watch enough British TV or read enough British books to be comfortable with the terms and slang and chain store names. But even without that, you'd probably be okay.

Can you describe how the flavor of halibut differs from red snapper? How Brie differs from cheddar? For most of us, unfortunately, the answer is: badly. Flavor remains a vague, undeveloped concept we don't know enough about to describe - or to appreciate - fully. In Flavor, Bob Holmes shows us just how much we're missing. He tackles questions like why cake tastes sweetest on white plates, how wine experts' eyes fool their noses, and how language affects flavor.

I learned so much!
Revisado: 04-09-23
There was tons of fascinating information about what we taste, but also why and how we taste, and the real experiments that scientists did to determine it. Some of the information was immediately usable at home. We did one of the recommended wine and food tastings with some good friends, and all learned a lot about what types of food flavors do to some of the wine flavors. Everything is explained in layman's terms, and is clear and understandable. The narrator is excellent. I'll listen to this again, I'm sure.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Even better than I'd expected
Revisado: 03-16-23
All of my friends recommended it, but I'd been reading lighter stuff lately, and the cover looked heavier. It finally got to the top of my To Be Read pile, and I barely slept from the very first word. I just wanted to listen nonstop. It's moving, it's suspenseful, it's interesting, it's emotional. I absolutely loved it. And of course Ray Porter nailed the reading as only he can.

Historia
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

The whole perspective on LitRPG is a new one, and I loved that about it. Sometimes the dialog or the narrator were slightly awkward, but not unforgivably so. I've already bought the next book and I'm looking forward to it.

Awaken Online is a brand new virtual reality game that just hit the market, promising an unprecedented level of immersion. Yet Jason quickly finds himself pushed down a path he didn't expect. In this game, he isn't the hero. There are no damsels to save. There are no bad guys to vanquish.

It's okay.
Revisado: 10-07-22
The concept is good. The plot is good. Much of the story is good. But the characters and writing seem very immature. Not as in YA, but like a new author who needs more time to hone their skills.
There's a lot of telling instead of showing. The characters act in extremely shallow and predictable ways. But the game mechanics are pretty solid and enjoyable.
