Pleasant reading performance

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-22-20

I enjoyed listening to the reader's voice. She instills emotion into the reading without giving a full dramatic performance of the story.
In terms of stories, the characters were pretty well defined. In my mind, the sleuth had an unhealthy disregard for her personal safety, given the ready availability of professional criminal investigation personnel. I would have liked richer world building.

Scandalous Intentions Audiolibro Por Amanda Mariel arte de portada

Nice treatment of unwelcome courtship

Total

I thought the narration was well done. I enjoyed the performance of the various characters.
The story is well written and easy to follow. It combines the unwanted courtship and marriage of convenience tropes and has a decent but not overwhelming level of angst.

Great story, steady performance

This was more a reading than a performance. Given proper expectations for the presentation style, I found the reading to be well paced and clearly voiced. Amanda Friday provides an expressive reading with well moderated tone and pleasant inflection.

Well written and well performed

The story had a well developed female lead. I didn't feel that we had the backstory needed to say the same for the male lead. I assume this is because it was written as an extended prologue and not a stand alone book. Marion Hussey 's performance is outstanding. She voices the various characters distinctly and consistently. Her emotional range reflects that of the characters throughout the story. Both writing and performance did the job of making me want to hear the rest of the story.

Sweet story and enjoyable narration

Total

Revisado: 06-11-18

This was read by the author, so I assume the performance portrayed the characters and feelings as the author honestly intended. The story was sweet but not sappy. I thought we learned a lot about the internal life of the characters, as the author presented the story through various characters' points of view.

Bad boy billionaires aren't my usual choice in romance, nor is sci-fi, but put them together in the way Tasha Black does (and give me the audiobook version) and I was drawn into the story. I liked the way the landscape of this universe is described while moving the story forward. West behaved like a spoiled jerk from the beginning and there didn't seem to be chemistry between him and Cordelia, so I found it hard to like him and might have quit if I was only reading, but I was really enjoying the narration and then the industrial espionage and bionic limb stuff captured my interest. Thanks to the vocal performance of Mason Lloyd, it turned out to be a satisfying experience.

The Governess' Debut Audiolibro Por Wendy May Andrews arte de portada

Short, clean, unexpected love

What made the experience of listening to The Governess' Debut the most enjoyable?

The vocal performance gave depth to a book that was short and somewhat shallow in character development and plotting.

If you’ve listened to books by Wendy May Andrews before, how does this one compare?

I am unfamiliar with Wendy May Andrews' work. I noticed historically inaccurate language/speech, but it didn't distract from the plot.

Have you listened to any of Eugenie Watson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I really enjoyed Eugenie Watson's vocal performance. She brought the characters to life with consistency, painting pictures for me with her voice. This is the first of her performances that I have had the pleasure to experience.

Any additional comments?

I liked the match making mama aspect, especially since it was the Earl's mother pushing them together. I thought the ending came rather abruptly, with minimal conflict or angst, and no satisfactory grovel to back up the Earl's declaration of live.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this performance to anyone who enjoys stories featuring Jane Austen's memorable characters, but with a detour from their story as we know it. Nina Price gives an enthusiastic vocal performance with unique intonations that surprised and delighted me.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the exploration of the true character of the players in the story. The darkness in the actions of several were quite jarring, as they are so often portrayed as either jovial or pompous, but rarely as malevolent. This story had depth; it wasn't just another glossy repackaging as a humorous social commentary.

Have you listened to any of Nina Price’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first of Nina Price's vocal performances that I have listened to.

What did you love best about The Trouble with Being Wicked?

This story is a great opportunity to watch a truly uptight and judgmental jerk be transformed through the power of love and truth. Ash has spent his whole life laboring under incorrect assumptions about his parents' murder-suicide. He judged his actions and those of his sisters and assumed the worst about their prospects for a good life in proper society. Celeste has tired of being London's most successful demimonde and seeks a quiet and private life in the country, using her fortune to help others and do good on her own terms. Falling in love (with an entirely "inappropriate" woman) isn't enough to break down Ash's defenses and make him a better man. Only when he learns and accepts the truth does he find a way to accept the choices of those near and dear to him and gain the courage to choose kindness and become the person he wants to be.

What made the experience of listening to Pride and Persistence the most enjoyable?

The narrator's performance was well-paced. Her character voices were distinct one from another, with great accents and full of emotions.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pride and Persistence?

I particularly enjoyed Mr.Bennett's interview with Mr.Darcy. It was evident where Elizabeth got her quirky sense of humor.

Have you listened to any of Nancy Peterson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first exposure to Nancy Peterson's talent as a narrator. It left me favorably disposed to seek out other books that she reads.

If you could take any character from Pride and Persistence out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The Collins's cook, Mrs. Wilkinson, has a fun sense of humor that would make her a charming dinner companion.

Any additional comments?

I loved the scandalous secret that Mr. Darcy shares about Lady Catherine's love match.
