Historia
For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right.

The intelligent vs emotional discussion on energy.
Revisado: 09-20-22
The framework takes the emotion out of the discussion and focuses on human "empowerment".

Historia
An international conspiracy among powerful bankers, business leaders, and government officials; closed-door meetings in the Swiss Alps; and calls for a radical transformation of every society on earth - the Great Reset sounds like it is one henchman-with-an-eyepatch away from being the plot for the next James Bond movie. But The Great Reset is not a work of fiction. It is a highly influential movement among the world’s elite to “reset” the global economy using banks, government programs, and environmental, social, and governance metrics.

I am glad this work is not free. Free things have no real value. Having all this reference in one spot is nearly priceless and more than worth it's price. I have the hard copy on order but could not wait. I recommend you do the same.

Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

NOT WHAT YOU THINK.
Revisado: 04-08-21
if you want to spend 8 hours listening to two Harvard professors identifying at length how Trump is the harbinger of fascism in America, than look no further. Since I had paid for it, I listened to the WHOLE thing. The narration was quite excellent and I suspect it had to be read aloud by someone who did not make retching noises when they say the word "Republican". The entire book uses the logic and reason of a petulant 5 year old to drive home its vague point (if it has one). It enumerates all the political evils of the entire history of the United States and then attributes them to Trump. OR, it enumerates them all and then says "and it's still not as bad as Trump!" From this book I did learn something however. I learned that things presented by Harvard professors must be viewed with skepticism. This may be the furthest thing from a scholarly work I have yet come across.

Historia
Westley Flagg isn't your usual lawbreaker. He's a poacher, a moonshiner, and a prepper, out of necessity. Despite trying to live on the straight and narrow, he knows the law can turn things on you in a heartbeat. When Wes has to come up with money for his Grandpa's surgery, he gets involved with an unsavory group. Living deep in poverty for most of his life, he's become resilient and flexible, but college education can only take him so far. A solar storm sends the northern lights as far south as Texas, and cascading failures in the grid cripple the nation. Now, without communications, Flagg has to prove he has what it takes to still survive.

Revisado: 01-01-21
From the opening sentences I was hooked. The characters, the premise, everything. The kind of people you want to know. I really like how things like emotion will get a characters into trouble but their principles will help them work through it.

Motives are important
Revisado: 01-01-21
if you are looking for a book where people do the right things for the right reasons, this is it. The author writes stories with strongly principled characters and shows the struggle that doing the right thing can cause in a world full of ambitious and deceitful people with nefarious motives. To me at least, it is a very believable plot in light of the way people are reacting to current events today. You would swear that the author may be able to see into the future.

The Russell family is finally reunited and the citizens of Trout Run Valley are blessed with a period of repose, but the interlude does not last. Measures of aggression resume against them yet again, only this time, escalate to an unprecedented degree of ruthlessness, forcing the surviving victims to their breaking points.

A story worthy of discussion
Revisado: 10-14-20
I have read The Rights of Man and Common Sense by Thomas Paine, a quote of his being referenced in the closing chapter and from the opening quote from William Pitt the Younger, this is a book I had a hard time putting down. The story is great in it's own right but an excellent continuation of the series too. The character dialog is how I wish more people would communicate; clear and thoughtful. This is much more than unbridled hostility and looks very closely at what tyranny and freedom really mean.

Action and emotion.
Revisado: 09-10-20
Having had my tear ducts professionally removed at MCRD San Diego in 1987, I was as close to having an emotional episode as I am capable of. Not just a great post-apocalyptic story but a GREAT story. I may be a sucker for dogs too. Excellent characters and well researched with a story line both believable and exciting!

There is a quote I like
Revisado: 08-17-19
it is often attributed to the naturalist Charles Darwin, I goes something to the affect of "it is not the strongest who survive, nor the smartest; it is those most adaptable to change." this series, more specifically this book (so far anyway), really address this point well. This book and story lack nothing. All I want is more!

Historia
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Stop what you are doing and listen to this. Please
Revisado: 06-25-19
This author has written a book who's story is captivating. It centers around a young woman that I would be proud to know. She is strong and cooperative. Confident but cautious. She is raised to examine, think, decide and act. The dialog is exactly the way I wish the majority of Americans would communicate! Clearly, easily understood. The books message is excellent without being too preachy. Very well delivered. It is obvious to me the author knows what our Constitution and Bill of Rights mean. Any good "post-apocalyptic" book is going to need a good apocalypse to kick things off and this one is as plausible as any I've read. This story could support any scenario because the story is so much more than the apocalypse. The performance of the story by the narrator borders on perfection. His tone and meter are as easy to listen to as anything you could imagine. I have since listened to all the books currently in this series. I can not wait for him to continue!
